Life after EQ

Postby Jay » Tue Mar 28, 2006 1:19 am

What major changes since you've quit EQ or since you've cut down your playtime drastically?

For me, I started doing better in school, lost 60lbs since I quit and graduated and started working. Made a lot of good friends, had some good times that came to an end when I moved to the ca bay and it made me regret all the time wasted on EQ.

Just feel like the noose has been loosened around the neck of the rest of my life. Whatever it is Im doing is fine now. Instead of having to plan my day around 10 hours of gaming.

Definitely healthier. Working out now. Quitting smoking + EQ zombie = 50 pounds. Blech. Feels good to be working it off finally.

But I was a computer geek way before EQ. So my gaming will never stop. Its great to have time for several great games simultaneously. Currently playing HL2, FEAR, DnD Online, EQ2, Oblivion, Ghost Recon. EQ1 just got way too heavy. So I still game a couple hours a day typically, but I can do it a half hour here and there, and just save and quit when I want. So much easier to deal.
You were right Tikker. We suck.

I found that I saved a shit ton of money when I was playing EQ

instead of going out to a movie, or out to shoot pool, or whatever

first year I was in LoS I saved $5400 in real life money

it's kinda ironic, that I was finally able to save the downpayment for my house because of EQ..

EQ gave me a outlet for my agressions instead of killing my inlaws when we lived next to them.

EQ saved me a ton of dough, but at the same time absorbed much of my free time. Too much.

While it was enjoyable, I'll never devote that much time to anything again. I'm strictly a part time gamer now..

Amen. towards the end there wasn't a fucking thing enjoyable about it.

Yeah. Spending time with my kids, going fishing, etc beats the bejesus out of any mmorpg. =)

I see about 2 hours a week on any game. No complaints here.

Bought a house, gained 40 lbs, girlfriend moved in with me, got a more than full time job, and I still game 30+ hours a week.

Good point. I spent next to nothing when i was playing EQ. 3 bucks for a couple of 2 liters of Mountain Dew (the nectar of the tards) every so often and a microwaveable burrito and I was good to go. Here and there, I might need a game card. Nothing beats 45 bucks for 3 months of entertainment. Never again though. Despite saving all that money it's still not worth it to devote my time to something that much.

I'm a bit biased too, in that I got an all expenses paid weekend vacation to San Diego on Sony's tab

I was the Nameless representative at the EQ Guild summit 2 summers ago

And yeah, I hung out with Quixen a bit. He's as nice a guy IRL as in game
