Gear upgrades guide..

Postby Yamori » Thu Mar 15, 2007 4:39 pm

Anyone interested in me writing up a quick one for gear/augs/ect that can be done easily (ie, by solo kiting or minimal effort ect) to beef up your imaginary cartoon character? (If you're getting back into the game or starting a new one and way behind on gear)

I'll gradually get working on things.

Basically - if you're a caster class, you're in a MUCH better position for easy/significant gear upgrades. Melee gets kinda fucked in this regard. The upgrades aren't as good and are much harder to solo/group. Necro in particularly practically has it made as far as rapidly beefing your gear up.

-----

K, these 3 pages are your friend: (list of most tasks from last 3 expansions)
http://samanna.net/gen.info/prog.dod.shtml (DoD)
http://samanna.net/gen.info/prog.por.shtml (PoR)
http://samanna.net/gen.info/prog.tss.shtml (TSS)

.
Bazaar is a great source of cheap upgrades now that PoR/TSS/TBS came out with their droppable attunable gears that have really high required levels (usually have 130-190hp/manas). Most people at level 68-75 have better gear, so there is very small demand for them. I got my Nec alt a 170hp/mana DoT focus required level 68 mask for 500p awhile back, and a 180hp/mana neck for 15k... just an example.

Since they added new loot to hot spot zones, a lot of nice mana regen/haste items are going really really cheap. 31% haste belt/3 mana regen earrings from griegs go for like 1k each now.

If you feel like farming for plat (zzz), holgresh furs from wakening land monkeys sell for 1k a pop in /barter and are probably the fastest route if you can't solo any harder stuff.

Likewise, buying Radiant Crystals in baz for DoN expansion merchants can get you some decent augs/weapons if needed.

.

First off, let's look at easy augs:
1) Orb of Mystic Fury [50hp/mana 3mana regen] (TSS)
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/ques ... quest=3762
REALLY easy. You talk to an NPC in steppes, run to an NPC in direwind, run back to steps, zone into Vergalid Mines to loot a chest, then back to direwind NPC. Took me 20 mins.

2) Petrified Pixie Pollen ( 15mana/hp) (TSS)
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/ques ... quest=3839
Shitty aug, but ultra easy. Kill named bee in bee section of Blightfire, turn loot in to NPC in same zone. Presto.

3) Hot Spot Zones trash now random drop augs.
Splitpaw= 50hpmana
CazicThule = 45hp 10 AC
Griegs End = 40mana
The hole = 25hp +2 all resists
Chardok = 30hp 8AC

.

Misc Gear:
1) Cloak of the Spirit Tracker (175hp.mana - evolves to 250+10avoid+faerune) (PoR)
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/ques ... quest=3369
Kill 5 static spawn nameds in Arcstone. You will need a group, but any random shitty group should be able to do it. Pretty easy relative to the big upgrade.

2) [DoD] Hive Silk Mask / Drachnid Necklace (200hp/mana for caster-melee respectively) + 25hp/mana augs (2 mana regen, 20 atck respectively)
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/ques ... quest=3204 (normal for aug, hard version for gear)
The mobs hit real hard in this mission, but nothing summons and it's entirely kitable. Find any necro who isn't a total idiot and you can finish this easy. The XP is totally hawt too. Chest drops from these (particularly hard) can be nice too - 200hp/mana plate class BP, 200hp/mana caster shield can drop.

Tons of Necro's do these missions for exp... I'm sure any from NT would be glad to task add you for the free loot.

3) Icefall Glacier Bracers [TSS] (non-lore 200+hp/mana bracers w/ 5 mana regen each for all class types)
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/ques ... quest=3665
Kite/Root-Rot the polar bears in icefall, loot 4 icefall grizzly pelts, turn them in to some giant in Valdelholm. Have a fuck-ton amount of HP and hit real hard, but they don't summon. Again, buddy-up with a non-idiot kite class and you should be able to get these done eventually.

4) Elddar forest ring/earrings: (175ish mana/hp) [PoR]
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/ques ... quest=3492
Kite non-summoning orcs, loot items, turn in, presto. Just be sure to keep a BIG range away from casters when kiting/rooting them, since they cast a mean DoT.

5) Relic quests: (200hp/mana ring, earring, and 55hp/mana aug)
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/ques ... quest=3396
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/ques ... quest=3394
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/ques ... quest=3412
Kill bunch of trash in Relic/Arcstone, loot items from them, turn in for 3 different rewards. You'll need a group (a lot of these summon), but almost any non-idiot group should be able to do it.

6) Random DoD/PoR monster missions. If you can find people to do these, some are really easy and have OK loot drops relative to their simplicity. Thurgadin missions in particular have 65hp augs, 135hp rings, and 135hp shields.

.

Misc: free 10 slot giant 75% weight bag.
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/ques ... quest=3788
Get task, Kill wimpy level 15 npcs in blightfire, loot items from them, return, presto.

It would be cool to have a list just to see if everquest can be playable again.

Its actually very playable now. It does not take much time at all to get decent gear, and caught up enough to survive in a raiding guild. I would have to write up a guide for gear, but honestly its cake now, just have to invest alittle time.

Its hit and miss with both. But you can buy potions now, that are almost as good. There is also Out of combat regen for mana and health now. So medding and stuff is really not an issue anymore.

Getting the 300 - 500 AAs required for raiding guilds is still kind of a bitch if you don't have many though. I think the quickest way to get some what decent stats was to just buy the higher end DoN stuff with the crystals. At the time crystals in the AH were dirt cheap, but I guess it kind of depends on what they are going for these days if its worth it or not.

Actually AA's are fairly easy to come by. If you have had your account active for more than a year (accrued) you get a double exp for 30 min every day. Right now there is a scavenger hunt for a 10 dose potion of 30 minute double exp also. You can average with a good group 3-4 AA's doing some of the missions now in half an hour.

Maybe with raiding gear Xaiv, but if your chillin in a mix of quest gear / best AH gear, 3-4 AAs per 30 minutes is definately not a realistic option. With out the 30 minute double exp AA, the average what I was finding was an AA every 45 minutes or so.

Yeah doing the gear quests will not net you the 3-4 AA's you are right. I was talking about doing just straight EXP groups once gear was done. I guess what im trying to say is AA's are easy to come by now, dont let needing 300-400 AA's stand in the way of playing.

Yea thats a fair statement. What it really comes down too, is if you have friends to play with or not. They have adjusted EQ nicely so that its playable, but if you don't have a circle of friends to play with, it just feels like a chore even with all of the upgrades.

That is very true Burgy, pickup groups are tougher to come by, well good ones anyway. But at the same time, dont let that stop you from playing either. Guilds are easy to come by, and they are always looking to add people. Grab a guild, make a new circle of friends np np.

I rarely exp anymore, pretty much only raid now, but if you guys are on shoot me a tell. If i have time, ill help ya out.

Having boxed 6 accounts for over a year with many many classes (all but berserker) the only two classes that EVER got an invite to an exp grp was my cleric and chanter. Over the course of that year, i got maybe 4-5 tells. I got tons of buff requests though.

I didn't look for groups (ie. i boxed 6) but if you are <60-65 with less than 100AA you don't find a whole lot of fun in EQ IMHO.
