Eq questions

Postby Naethyn » Thu Mar 13, 2008 12:14 pm

Ok so I've been in a debate with a friend about some of the mechanics in SoD. It has been said many times that the code in vanilla eq is identical to the code in sod in terms of the way spells work.

Here goes.

Do spells generate just as much aggro resisted as unresisted?

Do heal over time spells generate aggro to the original caster every tick? I've always understood it to generate aggro as a single cast buff. The spell effect of the buff does in no way generate aggro to the original caster.

Soooooo lets hear it!

The code is anything but identical, it's not even the same as other emulators.

Wiz is a fucking genius. You should post there, you'd get a better answer than the noobs here.

I'm curious how vanilla eq works.

in EQ you generate hate as a potential of the total damage/heal

there is a modifier to heal agro tho

heal over time is per tic (which is why it generates less hate than a straight heal)

So what about resisted vs unresisted spell aggro

it's been a long time, but I think it's the same

if you cast a detrimental spell on a mob, it'll still agro if it's resisted, no?

i can't recall any times off hand where i was summoned by a mob from a resisted spell during a boss fight as opposed to a full blown ancient nuke or lure or something.

they'd been playing with the code for a long while by the time there was ancient nukes

I never really played a caster until PoPish, so my knowledge of how nukes were treated is a bit sketchy

that being said, no one ever got wtfpwned at every stage of a fight like Targonis (if anyone remembers him)

Good gosh that is a name I've not seen in a while, targonis the pre-mature nuking wizard that bounced from guild to guild :).

I think resisted nukes got you the same agro as a full hit. When they added in critical spell damage, that bonus to my knowledge did NOT increase agro beyond a full "hit". I'm no expert though :)

that's the way I remember it too

there was a really good investigation into the mechanics behind hate when Kunark launched

basically, rangers were getting wtfpwned all the time, and constantly pulling agro from taunting warriors, etc etc

it basically came down to the fact that all the ranger weapons were really fast, and that the actual damage you did wasn't what caused hate, it was teh potential base damage of each attempt

I think I can remember a couple raids where he didn't die and everyone was shocked.
