so my GPS addon arrived from Hong Kong today

took about 10-15 minutes to figure out how to build a map, and about 30-40 minutes of chugging for the app itself to spit out the PSP compatible map(s)

I'm really pretty impressed with how smoothly it worked

took a lot longer for it to acquire satellites than a real gps but for half the price of a really cheap/poor GPS, I've got one that's going to be not too shabby

So the GPS addon is an actual device that connects to the PSP? How does it track you?

Just like any other GPS

google up "gps psp 290" if you want more details

for homebrew stuff (map this) it's really pretty polished

it'd definitely be a step down for anyone that has a real gps (garmin, tomtom, whatever), but if you just want to play around, or want something for geocaching, it's not terrible

Yeah pretty cool. I'd probably just get a Garmin/TomTom though. That's the kind of thing you can ask for as a Christmas present.

this sounds interesting so im gonna ask...now keep in mind, I am NOT a very technical person. I could barely figure out the torrent shit the other day. I can play games and use teh intarnetz and thats really about it. so if I buy a PSP, how hard would it be for me to figure out how to do all this stuff, like putting old games on it, like FF7 and stuff? Or would I be better off going and getting some PCP instead than trying to figure it out?

I'm just like you and I had a lot of trouble putting FF7 on my PSP. After my PSP was modded, it took hours to install FF7 but I finally got it working. And I have the original discs and that is supposed to be the "easiest" way to do it. I looked for the file on torrent sites to see if it'd be easier to do it that way and every FF7 file I found was like 2 gigs and surrounded by comments like, "FAKE" or "DOESNT WORK, WTF".

Godspeed.

I found popstation to be really pretty simple

I dunno, if you need help, I'm more than willing to give you a hand. it seems pretty daunting at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's really pretty simple

converting the PS1 games into PSP compatible is probably the most difficult part of it, but it's not that hard

I didn't want to speak about Tikker's patience and willingness to help in this matter because I felt like I'd be volunteering him for his services but considering his last post I feel comfortable in saying that I couldn't have done it without him. It' just serves as one of the many examples why I'll always look back on the nameless tavern with nothing but joy. As corny as it sounds.

be careful if you buy a new one now, both the more recent psp 2000s, and the new psp 3000 are currently not hackable. i don't quite remember the letter, but theres a specific letter, that you want to avoid any psp box model number starting with that letter or later.

the psp 3000 is pretty cool though, I haven't use it yet but it even has built in skype and a mic so you can kinda use it as a cell phone too (if you're in a wifi hotspot)

PSP2000 has skype built in as well
it does NOT have an onboard mic, so you have to use a headset. that being said, you'd look kinda funny holding the psp up to your ear, then moving it to your mouth to talk, heh

Snero does speak true tho

avoid the psp 3000 (they're being recalled currently for bad deinterlacing on the screens, hardware fault), and they're not hackable atm

the TA-088 mobo's are the one's that aren't hackable iirc, no clue how tell until you open up the package tho

they're still semi rare in northamerica, so I wouldn't be crazy concerned about that

I thought I needed one of these. Bought my friends PSP1000 already cracked and a pile of games.

PSP's are dumb.

Great concept, poor execution. It's really uncomfortable to hold and the screen is just too small for the kinds of games being made for it. The racing games are "fun" but you can't tell what's going on at high speed. I like the Dungeon Siege game quite a bit but it's grown tedious even just a few hours in to it. Even the "must have" Crisis Core is meh. It's just not as much fun to play as the DS is and that's not even that much fun. I've tried to love it but I don't.

Fuck a PSP

I don't actually play any PSP games on my PSP, heh

I use it most of the time for reading eBooks, watching TV/movies to be honest

it runs nes/snes/genesis/ps1 emulators pretty flawlessly as well, so I've been able to find quite a few games for it

yeah, it's not terrible, I don't really dig it that much tho

Resistance Retribution is surprisingly good too.

I'm still mostly using mine for reading and gps (surprisingly handy out in the boonies here, jeje)

I'm also fiddling with X-com on it a bit (the psx/psp version runs faster than the pc version, heh)

I don't like the controls in Resistance, I don't like having to use the buttons to move as opposed to the directional pad.
