I always have high hopes for Final Fantasy franchises. I loved 7. 9 was alright. Never finished 8, 10, or 12.

I am a little worried that they tried to go too theatrical/emotional with storytelling in 13, though.

Haven't liked a FF since 9.

By the way, you can sign up for FF14 beta, if you haven't:

Actually I feel the same way but if the gameplay is there then I don't mind. It's when they sacrifice the gameplay for the theatrics and drama that I start to dislike it (FF8, Xenosaga, Shenmue and to some extent FFX and def X-2).

I loved the old ones, couldnt get into the newer ones. 20 minute cut scene, walk across the screen, 20 minute cut scene, rinse, repeat. I'll give this one a shot though.

FF12 was pretty cool but i eventually lost interest

FF10 is too much anime bullshit

FF9 everyone raves about but i never played it enough to say

FF8 had a cool card game

FF7 is still the best of the newer ones. because obviously everything 6 and below were nothing short of timeless

i want another FF tactics personally

I never tried Tactics, maybe I should.

I bet FF14 will fail hard, though I don't want it to. It looks beautiful. I just can't see an MMO that is designed for both PS3 and PC being satisfying to both audiences.

FF7 was on PC too

and yeah try tactics if you haven't. it's not like other FF games tho so don't go in expecting to walk around and get in random battles. you go to battlefields and play out scripted fights as you go thru the story line and build your character classes etc. you can run into random encounters as you move past each battlefield you've already completed tho

it's just deep. and long. and hard. unless you're bitchly and use Orlando and his hasted sword of rape. then it's really easy. but i do that a lot i guess, purposefully make it way harder. like not using stimpaks in fallout 3 because there's a "used stimpak" counter that i want to keep at 0 heh

Tactics is an awesome game, I'd love to see a direct sequel to it. As for the FF games after 9, I think they really suffered when Sakaguchi wasn't as hands on. He was Exec. Producer on both 8 and 10, which I thought were fairly weak and the least "Final Fantasy-ish".

Ranking since we are back to that again:

4 (one of my favs of all time)
6
3 (original ROM is better than remake)
1 if you want hard - Ice Cave
7
9

definitely should

despite being a clone, it's a fantastic game, great story

I just wish they'd left the original alone and kept the 8-12 characters per side, rather than limiting you to 5

i've played it thru a couple or 3 times now, and it's just an all round good game

i want to play the final fantasy favorites ranking game! :D

i have played three, so it's a short list: 6, 4, 7. it's a toss-up between 6 and chrono trigger for my favorite game of all time.

7's just too good. i let someone borrow it and it's been gone for months and now i'm jonesing for it like crack

also i found out a friend of mine has the FF chronicles or whatever on PS1 where they finally released FF5 to america. haven't played it yet but i'm honestly stoked about another top-down SNES-style final fantasy

Are we talking about the original PS1 Tactics, or the PSP one or something?

no tikker just loves Tactics Ogre and likes to bash FF tactics for not being as vast (more like as time-consuming) as its predecessor. (FF tactics was made by the same dude)

i've never played the handheld tactics game. and now square-enix put out some super weird iphone game called Song Summoner that plays just like tactics but not really

Chocobo World was the best Final Fantasy game- hands down.

After that, Chocobo to Maho no Ehon: Majo to Shojo to Gonin no Yusha.

I'm just saying that preemptively, so that twenty years from now I'll be the cool guy who said I liked the shittiest games of the series.

yes, we're talking about the original PS1 tactics (in case you weren't able to decipher drem's roundabout answer)

Ps1 tactics and psp are basically the same but psp one was a fair bit easier

The reason I liked tactics ogre better was more characters allowed more diversity in the party makeup

it's hard to justify not taking the unique named guys in ff

FF8 was the first of the series I ever played so it will always have a special place in my heart. The only other non-SNES FF I can even play is 10, all the others released to playstation are garbage imho.

the named guys are all fine except orlando. that guy is too overpowered. he makes the game a cakewalk. which it definitely isn't until he shows up

both were crazy rare

ogre battle was the one where you had little squads of guys you moved around to fight

tactics ogre looks identical to FFtactics, with virtually identical game play

you can get tactics ogre for PS1 and GBA (the gba is a different story, but same mechanism of game play)

in a lot of ways Tactics ogre = EQ and FFT = WoW
