poops informed me at easter dinner today that metro2033 is currently one of steam's weekend deals for $10 - expires monday at 10am pacific

game style: survival FPS
brief overview: humanity brings about its own apocalypse, survivors are forced underground. story takes place in the moscow subway tunnels.
extra coolness factor: developed by some of the same wacky Ukrainians that brought the world S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

been watching videos

gonna download thru xbox live i think. my computer can't play games anymore. it can barely even play STALKER on the lowest everything :(

would be nice to snag it for 10 bux tho

it looks really sweet but i can't tell if it's sandbox or a straight-line. but i know there's a little gathering loot type stuff involved at least

keep us posted prz

is it just a big narrative or do you roam around and do whatever you want for most of it ?

It's not a sandbox game. More like Dead Space.

I'm planning on getting a new computer soon. Are the specs really steep for this? I wouldn't mind playing it for flavour and what not.

yeah i hate that tho. the only way i can play stalker is on low everything, and i just don't feel like it's doing the game justice because it's so beautiful

same with this. when i saw my first anomaly and i think khan was with me he said just stop and watch. so i stopped and the lightning anomaly came barreling down the tunnell and killed probably 25 nosaliases instantly that were clamoring down the hallway at me. it looked so fucking dope that i was thankful i could see it at close to high specs on my 360

because seeing a video of STALKER on very high makes me feel like i'm not even playing the same game

amazing atmosphere

and Z if you get a new computer you should just play the 3 STALKER games. they're just like this but better. this is dumbed down for consoles and is more or less a straight line, like following the novel of the same name probably. because whereas STALKER games are sandbox romps and have a beautiful outdoor setting where you meet the truly bizarre shit in underground labs, this is dreary, and like 90% underground so far with 0 backtracking or any ability to do so whatsoever. and not scary at all yet

still amazing tho

also this game has a great ballistics model. i like the games where shooting someone with a shotgun in their kevlar vest doesn't hardly do a goddamn thing, but one revolver round to the face puts em out. and vice versa. you can get taken out with one shot on hardest difficulty

also just got the "ranger" pack that removes the hud and makes ammo more scarce and all weapons from everything do a lot more damage. it's pretty immersive. lovin this game but i'm only up to the trolley fight part

i arrived at Dry Station after trekking through The Dead City (aka Moscow) and i gotta say i am going to shut off the music the next time i fire the game up

because creeping through postapocalyptic moscow while
Spoiler for :
some creepy voice makes you hallucinate children playing and asks you WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THEM?
all while being stalked by basically a giant mutant
Spoiler for :
wyvern
is pretty intense as it is, and cheesy "suspense" midi tunes could only get in the way. all i want to hear is monster noises, my own breath, and my feet crunching in the snow tyvm

ok so i beat it on hardcore. playing it now on ranger hardcore, which makes ammo sparse (1 or 2 bullets per body) and removes the hud. you have to pull up your watch to see how many bullets you have. and everything does more damage, including you. it's money. get the ranger pack thing if you can

this game is great

and it's funny you mention that part, that's where i'm at on ranger hardcore. the gasmasks and your headlamp all last about half as long, it's ... well, a lot more hardcore than the original hardcore. i bought 10 more filters at market station and had 19 when i went out and ran out and died before i got to dry station. wasn't going slow, either. it's so brutal/awesome. the no hud thing makes it so immersive, considering on most guns you can see how many bullets are in the clip on screen

can definitely feel some of the influence of stalker people - has that same mental aspect that at first seems kinda out of place or at least completely unadvertised

wtb stalker 4 ;\

i'm lucky, i haven't beat any of the stalker games. i've only really played the first and i'm not sure how far along the story i am. saving them all til i can play with graphics maxed

metro is better in some ways. the revolver is cash money. the stealth mechanics are top notch too. i think what i enjoy most is the level of difficulty. it's not an easy game

wish there were more anomalies and bolt throwing action tho
