so i am tired of Comcast and want to find another option. we can't get U-verse in our little section of town yet but I am interested in ATT's

AT&T Wi-Fi Premier
$19.99
per month
Wi-Fi access for non-AT&T High Speed Internet customers.

( this explains it a bit) https://secure3.sbc.com/stepone.adp?Plan=sbc12month&

it is cheap, much cheaper than comcast

BUT i am wondering if i will be able to reliably get a signal in my home, my half-brother in law :eyecrazy: says he got the plan and gets it in his apartment that is not close to any hotspots listed on their website

so does anyone have any experience with this and am i gonna have to take it up the butt if i want reliable service from home?

just remember that WiFi is a half duplex, shared medium

it'll be way more prone to slowdown if someone's doing torrents and stuff

Wifi is great, but I don't think I'd want to rely on semi open wireless for my main internet connection

I would guess that unless you live right on top of a Starbucks or a McDonalds, you are not going to get a decent signal.

also, my other question i think i forgot:

    Are Apple's worth it?

i mean essentially twice the price as a comparable PC.

No. I like my mini and I love the fact that it's worth basically what I paid for it like 2 years later but once you get over the "cool" factor, they aren't worth the extra money.

they're better for students and people that do a lot of media and design apps and don't want to play games. they're also very stable. if i had the money i'd get an apple at this point for school. they're the standard at UO and you can't find a PC on campus anymore afaik

yeah, i am talking about the macbooks, not the pros

i will probably have around 700 to spend on a laptop sooner than later and am wondering if i should suck it up and double my money to get a 13" with the ram and video card i want
