Yes, because you are a mom or have a wife and kids?

How is it a recipe for disaster? Because she can talk to someone who knows exactly what she is going through?

It comes as no surprise that the vagina squad came out with guns blazing in this thread.

Sadly my attempts to incite their wrath have proved futile thus far :(

It's not really the vagina squad...it's more the fact that what Mindia said made no sense. It just so happens that two females agree that he is wrong.

Why because he said a "local moms group is a recipe for disaster?"

I wouldnt say it's a recipe for disaster but it definitely sounds lame and yes, my girlfriend would think it was lame too. We already have plenty of friends, we don't need any more. Especially the support group kind.

Do your friends have kids?

If not, you'll find you have less and less in common with them. They can't relate to what you're going thru.

Sometimes it's just nice to hear "they grow out of it" from someone who's been there.

Yes most of my friends have kids.

And all of my friends have jobs as well.

And no, not the job of "raising my kid" full time.

And yes, they are great kids.

And yes, they are still fun people who know how to manage their kid time and the time needed for themselves.

And no, they don't need support groups.

Have I covered everything?

Ginz, if/when you have kids, you and your girlfriend will find that your single and kidfree friends will slowly fall away. It's just what happens.

Ummm....it hasn't happend with my friend's who have kids and have had kids for the last 8 years? We still see them at least once or twice a week for dinner / 24 night / movies / board games / etc.

So...

...I think you guys need to take the advice you gave to Mindia and think before you speak.

And my girlfriend and I are like the last people in our group of friends who are childless at the moment. So we're actually in the minority.

Give her time to herself whether it be at home or out. Also, being home all day every day with no adult stimulation can be very hard...even depressing as much as you love your kids. Take her out once in a while or make a 'date night' to show her how much you appreciate everything she does for you and your family....sometimes just spending time with her doing what she likes is all it may take. Just a few suggestions...similar to the other posts that I've read really. I hope that things get better for her and you as well.

The same women who need "support groups" and "time outs" are the ones who have always had their hands held and aren't strong-willed. Any strong woman can handle it.

Sorta reminds me of people who are super-religious and need other people to lay down the groundwork as to how they need to live their life.

I'm pretty sure, however, you're talking about friends where BOTH parents work, ie they BOTH get time away from being mommy and daddy.

Yes, once every couple weeks I NEED time away from my kids. This doesn't make me weak...it makes me human.

I never asked anyone to feel sorry for me, I chose this. Unlike an ordinary job, though, I can't go home at the end of the day and it wears on you after a bit.

Hey in my opinion my friends have it worse off than you. They have to work all day to pay the bills and then they have to go home and squeeze in everything that a stay at home parent would have all day to do into about two - three hours.

I never said I was worse. I'm just saying it's a completely different situation than what Kinghooter was asking about. When you stay at home you need some time away from time to time.

Taxx, for you

If a person doesn't work and stays at home all day with their kids, they should at least be in amazing shape. How about you Mart? Do you ever find time during the day to work out between posting on NT and watching TV?
