Ovechkin

Postby Kitao » Fri Apr 04, 2008 12:45 am

He has 65 goals.

I haven't paid attention to hockey stats in a while with a little Sabres player update here and there.

When I watched it with the "glowing" puck and such, Pavel Bure got 50? goals a season and I thought 50 was the mark of an elite scorer.

Ovechkin has 65 and he is 3 years into the league with a seven or eight game goal drought.

How impressive is 65 goals with the modifications they have made to the game?

It's pretty damn impressive. It's the first time anyone's gotten 60+ since Mario Lemieux in like 1995-96. So yeah, it's been over a decade since anyone hit even 60, so yeah, 65 is pretty much off the charts these days.

the changes they've made to the game in theory have opened up the game, and increased scoring

that being said, anything over 40 goals is a very good year

50+ gets you the sniper tag

60+ is goal scoring machine

I think some of the most impressive parts of Ovechkin's numbers are that he has absolutely no one else on the team really

teams in theory can load up against him, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference

that being said, his team sucks, so he doesn't get the attention that maybe he deserves

it's a good time for hockey right now, there's a shit ton of really good young players, on a bunch of teams

I don't know anything about hockey but enjoy watching it from time to time, that Sidney Crosby looks amazing on the ice, how does he stack up against other players? Hes still really young too

Crosby is probably the 2nd best player in the league (Martin Brodeur being the best)

Ovechkin and Crosby are very close, but I think Crosby is bit more rounded in his game

crosby is touted as the next big thing, and has been compared to gretzky and lemieux. gretzky himself said something along the lines of "if anyone is going to break my scoring records, he will be the one to do it". he took a pretty bad injury this season with a high ankle "sprain", so his numbers arent as impressive as they were last season cause he hasn't played in as many games. which brings up another amazing young player in evengi malkin, who has pretty much filled crosby's shoes while he's been out injured.

in my opinion though, ovechkin is the better player. he puts on the same show as crosby, but as tikker mentioned he does it without any of the supporting cast. plus he's a big strong kid that never shys from a hit or the physical play.. which gives bonus points in my book.

they're both the future of the nhl, and amazing talents. i would love to see pittsburgh stay #1 and washington keep that 8th seed just to see the crosby/ovechkin matchup in the first round.

"What? They can't lump us in with those fuckin' martians! "

Nascar is barely a few steps below WNBA and cheerleading as far as jokes of a "sport" go. At least there's boobs involved with the latter.

and lol@understanding hockey. It isn't fucking brain surgery.

Though...neither is a bunch of toothless, inbred morons driving in circles for hours. Now that I think about it, neither is baseball, football, basketball, soccer, tennis, golf, boxing, hmmm I'm seeing a trend here. None of them are complicated. So, what's your point exactly?

It makes me laugh every time I see a baseball team photo-op. Those guys look like truck drivers not professional athletes.

They all have a beer gut and a mullets. Am I really supposed to take these guys seriously? It's one step above darts and bowling as far as athletic prowess.

Yeah, so obviously only a step above two nearly 100% stationary sports. :ugh:

Though I doubt you're much of an athlete at all, so I can see where the confusion would lie.

P.S. I lift weights most often out of anything I do. Unfortunately, I am the ONLY one of my friends who doesn't smoke anything at all and never had. So getting these morons to do much beyond short spurts of anything even remotely cardio is like pulling teeth. And when I do they're barely worth bringing along besides the company...

Mainly I just load up my mp3 player and go for a jog, or bike ride when it's cold out. (Safer to go out when it's cold because addicts and minorities will just stay in their projects huddled up with their drugs and government provided food/housing.)

Except the Guatemalans, they're cool and never cause problems.

Baseball isn't a stationary sport? You stand in one place hit a ball then shake your fat gut down what 100 yards? The sport is basically like a pub game.

I think I could pretty much own you at almost all sporting events since I'm not fat and slow. I was a pretty good athlete in high-school, not great but good.

Playing basketball against you would be like beating up a infant.
