Buck Burnette is your latest example of how not to use Facebook. The backup center for the Texas Longhorns is no longer on the team due to "unspecified violations of team rules," according to Texas. The real story of how he managed to Facebook his way off the team, however, may be far more specific and interesting than that bland statement.
Sometime after the election results were announced, Burnette posted something very, very nasty under his "status" line on Facebook that allegedly involved a racial slur in reference to Obama. Then, sometime afterward, this appeared:

Clearly I have made a mistake and apologized for it and will pay for it. I received it as a text message from an acquaintance and immaturely put it up on facebook in the light of the election. Im not racist and apologize for offending you. I grew up on a ranch in a small town where that was a real thing and I need to grow up. I sincerely am sorry for being ignorant in thinking that it would be ok to write that publicly and apologize to you in particular. I have to be more mature than to put the reputation of my team at stake and to spread that kind of hate which I dont even believe in. Once again, I sincerely apologize.

Remember, Buck, it's important to keep racism in the home, not in public. Remember: if you're thinking about openly advocating for the assassination of the president-elect, you may want to password-protect your facebook page at the very least, or perhaps just keep that thought to yourself. People have a way of noticing those things, and by people we mean "the Secret Service ramming down your door at three in the morning."

    That's fucking ridiculous.

Kicked from a team for words on something entirely unrelated to his school in any way? Stupid.

he should be lucky if that's all that happens to him, first of all

second, it's not unreasonable to hold potential role models to, you know, higher moral standards

I have to agree. It’s give and take. Striving for a life of fortune and fame comes at the costs of surrendering your privacy and being held (reasonably so) to a much higher set of standards.

Oh no, he said nigger. No ones said that word in 200 years! Kick him off the team, ruin his possible career because of a *word*. It doesnt matter what actions anyone takes, the word is staying. And its just that, a word. Sooner everyone quits fucking worrying about it, the sooner it wont be a problem. Who cares, its old news.

Yeah, it shows hes a dipshit just for putting that up and he should try to be a better role model for people that may look up to the big bad football player for Texas, but godamn, this is stupid. I wonder if Jesse Jackass made any threats in this?

And doesn't a team have the right to exclude racists if they so wish?

Way overboard on the reaction of something "said" on his PERSONAL time, which was likely said in jest. He's not racist because he said a fucking word.

    People are so pathetic.
