2012 NHL Playoffs

Postby Arlos » Wed Apr 11, 2012 11:55 pm

Pretty stunning comeback by Philly, I must say.

I'm actually not surprised that LA beat Vancouver.

Weber's gonna get suspended for 1 game at least, I think, for smashing Zetterberg's head into the glass in a completely moronic move.

Everyone else's thoughts?

PS. Sharks are gonna get crushed by the Blues. Ugh.

I tried to go back and forth between the games and mainly watched the wings, for obvious reason.

It frustrates me that I feel the wings, overall, played better, they couldn't bag the puck for the life of them though, and 2 of the 3 goals the Preds made were complete luck shit shots.

I think the officiating was atrocious at best, IMO that was because the commissioner was in the building watching the game.

2 of the least penalized teams in the whole of NHL got something like 20+ penalty mins /shrug WTF. Some needed to be called but seriously the reffing was shit at that game.

I'm kind of at a loss for words on how the fuck Weber can only get fined for that shit. That isn't just the homer in me either, I love Shae Weber. He's way up on my list of favorites not wearing red and white. I like him for the edge he plays with, but I've rarely seen him totally cross the line like that before.

The missed punch to the back of the head was just as bad if not worse than smashing his head into the glass. So there's two intentional, flagrant dangerous fouls here and he gets a 2,500 dollar fine? The "Department of Players safety" is setting a pretty poor example here. "C'mon guys, it's the playoffs. Super stars don't get suspended in the playoffs, even if they're repeat offenders". The league is also lucky the Red Wings are one of the softer teams, otherwise some serious retaliation would definitely be in Weber's future.

I hadn't hit the nhl site yet to find out about weber, if he only got the fine that is BS. I will say in his defense that Zet. did hit him from behind a bit but sure as hell not to cause the actions that weber did.

I miss not having a fighter on our team, Ab can only do so much and he's not that big of a guy, Bert is too old to fight, need to get some heavies on the front line.

Way worse. Following through on a hit that had no intention of hurting his target, or punching a player in the head then grabbing said players head and slamming it into the glass a few times. Yep. Waaay worse.

bah, Bitz hardly made contact and most of that contact was unfortunately on the dudes head. At least that incident was while playing, and was a hockey play.

All season Shanahan has been suspending the fuck out of players for contact with the head, and suspends Bitz for hitting a player in the melon in the playoffs. Weber punches, grabs and slams a players head into something clearly intending to hurt him and its all cool. Just a warning and some pocket change for a fine.

You're just being an obnoxious little twat as usual.

Can I just say how happy I am at the game 1 result of the Sharks/Blues series? :arms:

They played really well, we didn't, and we still won. That HAS to be disheartening: they played pretty much their A game, we played our B game, and still came out on top.

The key is Havlat, who was missing/ineffective for our earlier games with the Blues this year. He was sucking for the first part of the year, what with the new linemates, new situation, etc. He was just starting to show real signs of getting it all together when he had that freak accident hopping over the boards. (Strangest injury I have ever seen, just about.) Since he's been back from that injury though, he's been on a massive tear. Absolutely been one of our best players, if not THE best player over that stretch. With Havlat in the lineup this year (including the time at the start when he wasn't that good), the sharks were 25-11-3. Without him they were 18-18-7. Pretty stark difference even factoring in the early season struggles, and now he's playing by far his best hockey of the year. Considering he got 2 of our 3 goals last night, including the game winner.... yeah, I'm glad he's back. rofl.

I still don't really expect the Sharks to win the series yet, but I am a lot more confident than I was before it started.

Oh, and put me down in the "Weber deserved at least 1 game" camp. Seriously, he looked like he was in the WWE and trying to slam someone's head into the turnbuckle. Complete BS, and I am HARDLY a Wings fan. (Datsuyk fan, maybe, because that guy is seriously goddamn amazing, but the Wings as a whole? no.)

go sens!

and damn there's a lot of physical/dirty play going on in the first round.

I don't like what carkner did, but they did have to do something after Boyle repeatedly punched karlsson last game.
