The NFL is all about match ups. The Giants always match up well against the Pats. Likewise, Shanahan teams have done well against Parcells disciples of which both Coughlin and Belichik are among them.

The Chargers have historically beaten the Colts/Peyton but lost to the Pats. It'll be interesting how Manning does against them now that he's in the AFC West.

Leaving for the Dallas game in an hour. Both teams are hobbled and we're expecting T-storms throughtout the evening, luckily the mezzanine is hanging right over my seats so I'll be dry...

I still expect a Cowboy's victory tonight.

Wow. The 49ers crushed the Packers yesterday. The score ended up kinda close, but that game was nowhere near as close as the score. If not for the replacement ref's missing a painfully clear block in the back on the punt return TD, that game wouldn't have been within 10 points. This may be heresy too, but Smith was the better QB out there yesterday too. Yeah, Rogers got more yards, but that's only because the Packer's had less than zero running game. Benson got what, 16 yards on 8 carries, and Rogers was GB's leading rusher? Ouch.

In other NFL notes:

Peyton looked pretty damn good last night, didn't he? He's not the Peyton of old, really, but he picked Pitt's D apart pretty well. Actually, Pittsburgh didn't impress me at all that game. They look like they need to get their shit together fast, or they're gonna end up on the fast track for 8-8 or 9-7.

The Browns coach should be shot for kicking the extra point instead of going for the 2-pt conversion. WTF was he thinking? What in hell is the use of being up 6 points in the 4th instead of up by 5? Just HOW much scotch had he been drinking that game to pull that one off?

Didn't see too many games actually, since I was gone much of the day, but so glad football is back....

The Browns kicking the extra point was absolutely the right call. There were 14 minutes left in the game. Right after that the Eagles missed a 42 yard field goal. You take the sure points versus a very iffy two point conversion. Weeden is awful. The coach should not be criticized for the 1 point conversion, but he should be fired for rolling out an inept rookie QB when Colt Mccoy clearly outplayed him in the preseason.

The 9er D is better than last year. Scary. Maybe we'll get some Harbaugh vs Schwartz MMA action at the handshake next week.

Manning is still a stud. He surgically took apart a <albeit old> stout Pitt D.

There's a good chance these teams will meet again in the playoffs. Possibly in Pitt, but probably not as I expect the Ravens to win the division. Dick Lebeau D's are 1-7 against Manning. I don't think it makes much difference where they play. Manning gets another good test next week in Atlanta on the road.

There should be a lot of hope for Pitt fans, though. Roethelisberger remains a top tier QB. The D still can shut down most NFL Os. The Ravens have a brutal schedule so there's still hope Flacco has a bad stretch. Honestly, I expected the Bengals to beat the Ravens as they match up well with them, but Flacco was on fire. I expect Pitt to turn things around and beat the Jets next week. The bad news is the Eagles will probably get rolled by the Ravens. They just looked terrible against Cleveland.

Didn't realize I suggested that. I just thought he looked pretty good for a rookie considering the team he played and being on the road.

I was pretty impressed, also. Nice victory on the road against a good Saints team. I spent a good chunk of time via Sunday Ticket watching that game and the kid was very poised and made few mistakes.

The game last night was decent. I thought both teams WRs couldn't catch anything, and the pass rushes were doing damage. I saw Nelson drop two catches that hit him in his hands. Marshall dropped a great throw from Cutler for a TD.

49ers looked really really good again. That's 2 top-flight offensive teams they have just completely shut down. Plus, they definitely got their offense working better, too. I don't think last year they convert those 3 long first downs they did on their back-breaking touchdown drive.

Don't think there's much debate now about who the best team in at least the NFC is, if not the entire NFL at this point...

I dunno if I'd go THAT far, but they certainly were much worse in Week 2 than in week 1.

They'd actually done a not-awful enough job in Week 1 that I thought there was some serious potential for a 1980 Air Traffic Controller strike outcome, where the replacements stick around permanently. NOW, though, not a chance.

Extra challenges and time outs lol

Not only did the Vikes win, they kicked the 49ers ass in every aspect of the game. That was a joy to watch. Those challenges/time outs were a serious WTF couple of minutes.
