Glyphs are modifiers to pre-existing skills. There are major glyphs and minor glyphs.

Major glyphs are the ones that modify combat or primary use skills & spells.

For example, some of the shaman major glyphs are

+2% spell crit while flametongue weapon is active

+8% to nature damage bonus from Stormstrike

+40% to AP bonus from windfury weapon

While some of the minor ones are:

Use no reagent for the walk on water spell

Use no reagent for the breathe water spell

Get 2 more globes from the water shield spell

You have 2 majors open at L70, the 3rd opens at L80.

you can find the glyph window as a tab on your spellbook.

ok, but how do I get them?

are they just a tradeskill item I have to buy?

are they quest rewards? drop from certain mobs?

the changes they've made to hunter pets is pretty astounding

I had fishing and cooking up to almost 200 before I realized I don't need those skills at all anymore

glyphs came out with the inscription tradeskill, and as far as i know you can only buy them. might be some rare ones in the end instances or something? arlos would probably know.

usually pretty cheap on the AH though.

Yeah, there's a new tradeskill, Inscription, that creates the glyphs.

If you don't pick up that tradeskill, head to the auction hall, there's an entire new category to browse for the glyphs.

I haven't bothered with it yet, probably look at it when I hit 65ish

ps, is it just me, or have they done something to make leveling way faster?

I'm about 2.5 days played in, and lvl 50

was also able to solo zul farrak at 48, and most of uldaman at 42 (can't start the last guy without 3 tho, wuwu)

Glyphs own.

My favorite paladin glyph is turn evil. It makes my undead / demon fear instant cast. I can now keep unholy deathknights and morphed warlocks perma feared. Woot

They increased the rate which you gain exp by I think 10 or 15% for levels 1-70 so it wouldn't be such a drag to level new characters. Gain more exp from quests. Made "group" quests alot easier. Goes even faster once you get to outlands and have a constant flow of easy quests.

Instances are easier so you don't always need 5 people. They just streamlined the leveling process even more so it doesn't take so long, and you can do most of it solo if necessary.

no, it hasn't

not to this extent anyways

I'm not complaining, since all I care about at this point is getting to the raiding stage to join a couple friends

it just used to be a semi-accomplishment to do instances under-level'd and now it's kinda a joke

I honestly think WoW has done it right. Think of the expansion patterns other MMO have come out with. They try to rewrite or add content for lower level characters. Wow totally scrapped that pattern and all new content is focused on the current levels of that expansion.

For example outland. When it was released it made changes to the game, but it did not greatly alter or provide alternate methods of leveling for characters pre 60. As the expansion aged they came out with content patches that changed the expansion itself. Gear got better, levels didn't increase, but content was added.

Now we move onto northrend. It being just in it's infancy has a lot of room to grow. The current gear will pale in comparison to anything even 6 months from now. All the while adding more content.

I think it's a far better model than that of everquest. Countless empty pre high end areas.

No, I find boredom in being handed everything.

I want a fucking challenge. I want a sense of reward from my efforts.

There is no effort in WoW for me. It's "just click here for your free shit via same_exact_quest309872"

The fucking game is stifling the MMO market and completely ruining it. It's pissing me off. It's breeding masses of noobs who will go on to the next big game and be retards there too. And God forbid if there's any fucking challenge, they'll cry like the little bitches they are until it's nerfed to WoW's pathetic level of difficulty.

If you think all the quests are the same-old, you haven't seen any of the new kinds of quests in this expansion.

There's a quest that basically recreates Choplifter. You fly a griffon down into an area swarming with undead, pick up a fleeing civilian, then carry them off to safety.

There is more than one quest where you fight aerial combat vs other dragons while you ride dragon-back and control some of the dragon's abilities.

There's a quest where you have to hang on to the underside of a drake and stab it with a spear without falling off, til you can get into a position where you can build up combo points for a killshot.

There's the incredibly cinematic Wrathgate questline, where you get personally involved in advancing the game lore/plot.

There's tons of quests using the new phasing technology that give you a 1st person RPG feel of being able to effect and change the world, while still being able to give everyone ELSE that same reward, not just the first group ever to do it.

There's a quest where you literally torture someone for information.

I could go on and on, but what's the point? If you are going to judge it by the game as it was on initial release, you're judging the wrong game. Yes, the difficulty curve is at the easy end of the spectrum right now, but they've said that's deliberate, and the next content chunk coming out will definitely be more challenging.

I swear though, there are people out there who will whine about the difficulty being too low until the death penalty reaches the point to where you die, a 5 pound mallet pops out of your monitor and smashes you in the balls.

That's how it felt to die in EQ when you're in the middle a dungeon lol.

Yeah I don't miss those days at all and will never go back to it! Arlos is correct Harrison, things have changed quite a bit and yes there is some serious ezmode in some of it. If you want to play in the end game and get some good loot and see some of the really cool raids, you cannot be a total putz. It will require some thought, attention to detail and not just mashing buttons. ;) The game shouldn't be just about leveling up and grinding out experience, that is not hard for me. It's boring.

Give it a shot man, you might actually catch yourself having some fun and laughing. Some of the new quests are quite hilarious.

the thing about EQ that I appreciated was that good loot meant something

you get so much stuff in WoW that I'd be hard pressed to name a single piece of equipment I had

You also weren't heavy raiding in WOW either, so you're comparing apples and oranges. For example, I sure as hell remember the circumstances surrounding getting my Thunderfury, even though that happened way back during initial release WOW, when I was still playing on Stormrage.

first time around I was

I was #2 horde hunter on the server, in #2 horde guild

but regardless it still applies

FBSS, fungi, etc were all super memorable EQ items, and non-raiding items

I can kind of agree with that. Nothing I have gotten in WoW has ever made me feel like I did after I got my first epic on Zennish. That was just a badass moment at the time, I remember I went to bed and my girlfriend at the time told to me get back up because it was obvious I wasn't going to be able to sleep lol.

They're like the gems you put in sockets. Once you slot them, they're there permanently unless you overwrite them with a new one.
