Is it just a KFC clone? We don't have any in canada so I don't know anything about it aside from the owners a cockface.

For a fast food joint, CFA is pretty good. They originated a 'southern style' type chicken sandwich that has been duplicated by McD's, KFC, BK, and other not so popular FF chains.
I do like their work enviorment and the company does take care of their people. All stores are closed on Sundays so their employees can spend time with their family.

As for what the owner said? Well, many successful people have said stupid things, that doesn't mean I'm going to boycott them. I still go see Tom Cruise movies, I still go to the Taj Mahal or any other Trump casino or hotel.

To me actions are more of a defined purpose of boycotting, for instance; I am no longer a Penn State football fan solely for the inaction that the Athelitic Director and Paterno did when they were made aware of Sandusky. Any type of Penn State memorbilia that I had has been thrown out.

I've only had CFA a couple of times and it was pretty good chicken as far as fast food goes. They've finally opened one here in Minnesota at the airport but I don't think I'll be going out of my way to go there. I'm not sure they would do well here any place but the airport. Cracker Barrel was open here for a while but went out of business. Not much tolerance for mediocre food and "southern style" mentality here. They might do ok in the more rural areas but the cities here are pretty progressive and "country" equals dumb.

Progressive meaning entitlement laden bastions of high unemployment and people who can't figure out how to change a lightbulb without paying a handyman, yet country = dumb. Got it. Meanwhile the area's that feed the country and provide the energy and resources via engineers and farmers obviously aren't as smart...

I'm not saying CFA is incredible food. All I can say is that the spicy chicken sandwich was very good, and my wife liked her chick filet sandwich, and my daughter loved the chicken nuggets. The criss-cut fries are way better at Carl's Jr. though. The vanilla shake I had at CFA was better than I've had at any fast food place.

He's not the owner, he's a COO. I know, he isn't a rabid, anti-patriotic, freedom hating, jingoistic type which irks you and the other liberals. Basically he's everything that makes America great and Canadians jealous.

I completely disagree that his free speech rights were being trampled on by "the left." 99% of the people bitching about it were doing so as private individuals or members of private organizations, which means they were simply exercising THEIR freedom of speech by speaking out in disagreement. Now, I certainly can't and won't condone the statement by the mayors of Chicago and Boston, as they were clearly completely out of line, since they were speaking in their role as members of the government. But, since they didn't take any actions to back up their threats, no actual harm was done. Also, that's two out of how many people? So yes, there was a lot of BACKLASH from "the left," but that doesn't mean in any way that his free speech rights were "trampled on" in the least.

No free speech violation occurred here. The mayors of Chicago and Boston are jockeying for votes, nothing more. That said, it's clearly an unconstitutional abuse of power, and serves to show how corruptible government can be when they have too much control over certain aspects of society.

The main hypocrisy of this issue is quite clearly the lack of similar outrage when the President had the exact same position up until three months ago.

As long as the President's stance remained against gay marriage, the full force of this particular special interest group could not be unleashed. Surely there were strategic meetings for the past year on the type of quid pro quo for the change in stance and the timing of it.

It's quite interesting to read some of the hate speech here leveled against a man whom from all accounts actually treats his employees well, but tragically had the audacity to have the President's pre-June 2012 view on a particular issue.

Backlash by the intolerant left for a man simply saying that he believes in the traditional definition of marriage. The "backlash" was the ONLY thing that could be construed as ridiculous behavior.

Narrock,

The point is that the man voicing his beliefs is also paying for his ideology to be forwarded with money made from a company with no previously overt political stance (yes, I know Chick-a-fil leans to the right).

As a result, people who had utilized the services the company provided (fast food) are indirectly paying for this man's ideology to be forwarded.

What if he had decided that the Human Rights Campaign needed a few million dollars because he supports gay marriage?
What would you say then?

10sun, I would just brush it aside and not make a mountain out of a mole hill. Furthermore, if I was mayor of a predominantly conservative city, not tell him I would block him from opening a store there. Imagine all the lost possible revenue and job creation.

sweet babies, you've spewed so much retardation i don't even know where to start

oh wait, yes i do. first, you literally do not understand the word "jingoistic" - as is evidenced by your claim that the "left" "hates" Cathy because, among other reasons, he is not "anti-patriotic" and "jingoistic."

m-w.com wrote:
Jingoism: extreme chauvinism or nationalism marked especially by a belligerent foreign policy, or

dictionary.com wrote:
Jingo: a person who professes his or her patriotism loudly and excessively, favoring vigilant preparedness for war and an aggressive foreign policy; bellicose chauvinist

ergo it is impossible to be simultaneously anti-patriotic AND jingoistic. dumbass. go back to whoever sold you that word and ask for a refund. or at least the instruction manual.

but more importantly, there are two main points that i will use to crush your bigotry-fueled argument with great ease.

1)
this has nothing to do with freedom of speech, and anyone who tells you otherwise stands to gain from convincing you thereof. try and follow along:
  • does Cathy have the freedom to say what he said? yup.
  • do i have the freedom to say to anyone who'll listen that he's a hateful fuckhead for what he believes? you bet.
  • do you have the freedom to let Rush jam his fat greasy hand up your ass and use you as a ventriloquist dummy? you sure do.
  • do hundreds of thousands of hateful piles of backwoods trash have the freedom to support CFA with their business simply because they agree with Cathy's message of oppression and hate? right again.
  • do millions of sensible, loving people who realize that it's stupid and hateful and regressive to deny a group equal rights because of their lifestyle have the freedom to say so? fuckin' A right.

for this to be a freedom of speech issue, the argument would have to be that Cathy does not or should not have the freedom to say the things he said. NO ONE ANYWHERE IS MAKING THAT ARGUMENT. the actual argument being made is that he is a bigoted fuckhead. if you do not believe the first amendment guarantees me the right to voice my opinion that Cathy is a bigoted fuckhead (or that you are one as well), your understanding of the first amendment is clearly as nonexistent as your understanding of the word "jingoistic."

2)

please fill in the blank:

i am outraged that pro-rights groups boycott CFA because of its COO's comments - yet when One Million Moms boycotts JCPenney for its "two gay dads" Fathers' Day ad, that is different because ___________.

hint: this is a trick. there is nothing you can put in the blank that is not ridiculous and/or hypocritical.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

argument destroyed. as numatu said above, no free speech violation occurred here. good day sir.

(the only thing that bothers me is the mayors telling CFA they can't open restaurants in their cities - i'm not sure they have the authority to do that.)
