i haven't ever smoked pot before. i almost did on saturday at my bachelorette party but then i chickened out. the end. (cool story, bro)

lol i really don't know. i'm not opposed to anyone else doing it, and i've had plennnnnty of opportunities... i think the whole illegal thing just messes with my head. plus i actually fear that i would effing LOVE it and would just be stoned all the time, haha.

i have always, always, ALWAYS wanted to have some pot brownies though. haha.

I have a hard time with eating it. I am such a lightweight in my old age, I have to seriously monitor how much I'm taking in. I can't do more than a hit or two without getting all freaked out and with baked goods, it's a crap shoot. It takes so long to kick in, by time I realize I've eaten too much, I'm laid out.

I eat all the time it sooths my stomach a lot. The other day though i had like 3 super potent rice crispy treats and went to the stripclub. I was so weirded out and it was a bad time. I had a good buzz on and fealt fine but being in the club was fuckin with me.

I smoke all the time and I effing love it. Got my license quit getting fucked up on other shit. Its a give and a take Im sometimes not as productive as I want to be but im not dealing with the problems that other drugs bring on now either.

I dont think its addictave cuz if I go without it doesnt make me sick or anything. As an everyday smoker though going a day or 2 does make me a bit edgy.



Brin are you still not smoking ? Or did you get a license over the years ? Does nebraska or wherever you are have a medical program ?

I smoked nearly every day for over 20 years. In the last 2-3 years, my physiology is changing. It doesn't have the same effect on me anymore. The buzz has changed and it's much more anxious than it used to be. I still enjoy it in small amounts but I can't hang like I used to. I just smoke at home if I know I have nothing going on. Can't smoke when I DJ anymore or have to be out in public because the results can be unpredictable.

It's not physically addictive. There are no compounds in itself or the smoke that create physical addiction. It is possible to feel some minor effect if you're a constant smoker (especially as we get older) because of the analgesic effect, i.e. if you were taking acetaminophen or ibuprofen every single day in a decent enough dosage then suddenly stopped taking it for a couple days, your body is going to feel normal aches and pains and cause irritability - weed does the same thing.

Now, psychological/psychogenic addiction, well, that's different for each person. If you're prone to hypochondria, anything that makes you feel good has the potential to create such an addiction.

Leah: it's a vicious cycle - you eat the brownie, get stoned, get munchy, eat more brownies, get more fucked up, wash, rinse, repeat lol. And it's easily controllable

Are the laws for medical reasons or literally legal to sell and distribute?

WA and CO laws are literally recreational use, you can purchase small amounts (taxed of course) at state-certified dispensaries, and you can consume freely at home (not in public) for ANY reason you want

most of the tax revenue goes STRAIGHT to education funding, which is amazing

you can also grow up to 6 plants for personal harvest

buuuump up to the top you go, big news today

but first, a more nuanced explanation of the CO law. recreational dispensaries don't go legal until 1/1/14, but as of 1/1/13 you can OWN weed and you can grow up to 6 plans for your own use, and you can use it anywhere you want (that isn't a "no smoking" section, of course), including in public within full view of law enforcement! what you can't do is sell what you have to someone else. you can straight up GIVE it to them, but no money is supposed to change hands.

anyway the big news today is that obama's DOJ has decided NOT to go after CO and WA for flouting the controlled substance act. this is pretty huge because one of the big unanswered questions ever since the votes went through was how the administration would respond. the upside here is that i think more states will now give this kind of law a shot knowing they don't really have to worry about picking a fight with holder, but the downside is that federal law hasn't changed at all (meaning that hillary could just have her AG reverse course in 2017)

On a slight tangent, we know weed has obvious pain-management applications, but I'm curious to know if it's also effective at reinforcing the idea of false consciousness and/or making the possibility of upward mobility seem viable in the face of evidence to the contrary.
