They can't survive. They don't have close to enough funds. They have no way to support themselves.

Triel is a private individual, not a public one. As a very public individual, and a news reporter on top of that, Macke is held to an entirely different standard for public behavior than other private citizens. If she was just some random hate-filled lady that worked in an office somewhere that spewed the same hate on her facebook, there would have been exactly zero public outcry. As a PUBLIC person, and especially as a news anchor, however, an entirely different set of rules applies. You would never have heard Walter Cronkite publicly insult someone personally, I can assure of that, just as an example.

As for Texas seceding, honestly, at this point I wouldn't care if they and most of the south left. Good riddance. Almost every single state in the South gets far more federal tax dollars sent there in aid than they contribute to the coffers anyway. They leave, the rest of the US gets better off, and we don't have to worry about pandering to red states any more. Of course, after a few years, we'd probably having to be sending them the same sort of food and monetary assistance we do to Bangladesh and Ethiopia, but hey...

You know, if any state could secede and succeed at it, it would be California. More people than texas, more resources than texas, we're something like the 5-9th largest economy in the world on our own, Silicon valley, food from the central valley, etc. Plus our finances would vastly improve if we're no longer having to subsidize those red states (CA pays something like twice what it gets back in federal money). Get Oregon and Washington to join in too, and we could be the Republic of COW, and see massive income from transit duties on everything shipped to the rest of the US from Asia, that has to go to Seattle/Portland/Oakland/LA/SD first....
