or maybe if hostess administration had cared more about their workers instead of pocketing that extra little bit of cash each year, they could've stayed afloat

works both ways, asshole

hmmmm so if you actually read more than headlines, you'll discover:

this is certainly not the first time hostess has declared bankruptcy (THIS YEAR, let alone this century)
the company was "bailed out" by bain-style hedge fund gamblers who kept dumping debt on Hostess while increasing their share value
during bankruptcy proceedings, the CEO got a 300% raise (and 9 others at the top level of management had their salaries doubled)

so yes, let's blame the unions, who correctly called bullshit on management's ultimatum to take an 8% pay cut in the spirit of "shared sacrifice"

Ya we were talking about this a year ago at work when they went bankrupt the first time. This has been long overdue. My favorite part is how some are trying to blame this on obamacare

They didn't adapt, it's an empty calorie product that when we were kids we always ate and our moms gave them to us.

This day and age, we're more nutrionally informed. The brand didn't change it's course and found itself in fiscal trouble because it wasn't moving off the shelves as it did even 20 years ago.

Did management help by giving themselves increases? No
Did turning over a 6 CEO's in 10 years help in it's stabilty and help foster a partnership with it's employees? Nope
Did the union help in staying on strike? I don't know, if they went back to work, how long will they have still been a viable company and stayed employed? It just sucks that it's happening right before the holiday.

I believe everyone is to blame in this outcome.

I was a union carpenter for 4 years. Assholes didn't do SHIT for me. Most private sector construction companies only make you wait 90 days before your benefits kick in. Union made me wait 180 days. That's twice as long, and a shitty thing to do to a member who is in an injury-prone profession. And as far as trucking goes, a "Teamster" union trucker makes less money than what they could make as a non-union trucker. Again, fuck unions. Fucking communist bastards.

My bad. I guess I was under the false impression that benefits should kick in sooner than 6 months, and to make a liveable wage. I mean wtf was I thinking???

good, you agree employers should pay a livable wage. now can we agree that it's ridiculous to let people making 7-digit salaries decide exactly what a livable wage is?

and btw there are tons of professions in which benefits do not kick in right away. here's an idea: if you think that's unjust, perhaps you should have stuck around and organized for such a goal rather than fucking off lol

The private sector DOES pay a liveable wage, AND provides excellent benefits (for the time being). You'll see what happens when you tax them even more. It's coming, and it's going to force those companies to lay people off or switch them to part-time status. Good job obummer!

Maybe the owner of Hostess should make fun of gay people to drum up business.
