It was primarily that bad, but not every second, my wife and I did sleep outside on a pool lounge chair for 4 nights and had to poo and pee in small trash bags for the majority of the cruise

Just hearing the words "ship" and "4,500 other people" would make me turn around and go in the other direction.

I don't care much for any environment where large numbers of people are in proximity for an extended length of time, so the idea of an over-sized, glorified hotel-cum-theme-park that floats on water has less than zero appeal for me.

I'm sorry to hear about what these people endured, glad there were no fatalities or serious injuries.

Cruises are pretty freaking awesome and cheap as far as entertainment/vacation goes. You should try one before pooing on it (shameless poor taste humor re: the current situation).

From personal experience I would recommend sticking with 5 day or under though. 7 day got a little excessive and redundant. And if you can go eastern coast Disney, Castaway Cay is the coolest cruise stop ever.

I'm the opposite personally. I have 76 days at sea (my grandfather was a VP for Holland America Line for three decades... we still get an awesome discount). I love the longer cruises. Just being able to remove yourself from the world, relax, explore the different ports of call, and have everything taken care of for you.

I guess for me it has always taken a few days to slip into the vacation mindset and on the short cruises I just barely get there and then it is over.

My personal favorite cruise was a 14 day that overlapped Christmas and New Year's. Took all the bullshit stress away.

We are actually eyeing the 14 day Disney Mediterranean cruise as our next one. Like you point out, it's not bad if you're hitting some cool ports and not just at sea a ton.

I dread gaining that 10-15 lbs though =(. Even walking a ton and trying to watch what i eat, seems inevitable.
