Whatever keeps that money flowing!

I love sports as much as the next guy, but this shit is out of control. I've been saying this for years upon years. Why are college coaches making that much money for amateur sports?

We should implement a hard cap on government/local/state/etc. employees.

I think the bigger problem is that players get nothing. They are the ones people come to see. The schools make hundres of millions off their work, and they don't see a dime. Not only that, they get suspended to accepting a free cup of hot chocolate. It's all just horseshit.

Capping public servants will just make the public service that much less desirable. Not a good idea. Those positions need to remain competitive (not talking about coaches, I agree they're over paid).

^ the article below the map mentions the players

Coaches don't generate revenue on their own; you could make the exact same case for the student-athletes who actually play the game and score the points and fracture their legs.

and then points out how mack brown made $5M for an 8-win season lol

i think i officially hopped off the college football bandwagon when i found out that NU was closing programs it couldn't afford while at the same time adding another ~15,000 seats to the stadium (hence the thread title)

pro-FB people tell me "oh they're paying for that with football proceeds, that doesn't come out of the school's budget" but that's exactly my point - NU is a university, a place of higher learning, and the athletics dept should be completely subservient to that goal. tuition has more than doubled since 2000 while the FB program rakes it in, and that's fucked up

Maybe UO is a little different, but most of our funding comes from the guy that also built our law school, our library, student venues, and countless other donations and gifts. Our music school just got a massive expansion, we put in a new business school a decade ago, blah blah. Sports may be the face of the U of O, but to the benefit of everything else. They definitely aren't closing departments and building new stadiums or anything like that

it wouldn't be such a big pill to swallow if the sports programs were subsidizing tuition, but you fags in the south are so scared of anything that smacks of socialism, it would never happen

yep, proud green socialist here, socialism has brought 'murca untold benefits as well as many of its greatest achievements

unfortunately those who stand to gain the most from privatization pay the media to vilify socialism (either by lying about the benefits of privatization or spreading misinformation about the concept of socialism itself), and dumb fucks like our resident cuntservative sheep in a cowboy hat buy it wholesale and THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS ANYMORE
