Can't you be calm and rational for 5 seconds? I don't believe in socialism. You do. I don't believe that my tax dollars should fund somebody else's health care, or housing, or meals, or cell phones, etc etc etc. If you do more power to you. To me, socialism is unfair. It's restraining. It takes drive and ambition away. Its destructive to our economy. Why should I waste my time explaining my points, when all you do is criticize me and tell me that I'm stupid and wrong and blah blah blah? Just agree to disagree.

i believe her point was that many aspects of american society that quite literally enable your prosperity are built, at least in part, on socialistic principles. i would also extrapolate* that she is accusing you of placing value only on those socialistic programs which directly benefit you and yours, while writing off similar programs which you and yours don't (currently!) benefit from as unnecessary at best, insidious at worst - making you heinously selfish and unconcerned over "the least of these"

if you don't believe me, here are several common examples of institutions which are grounded in - and would be vastly different or even impossible without - socialistic principles:

  • law enforcement
  • emergency services such as fire and rescue
  • public roads, bridges, sewers, airports, seaports, and other physical infrastructure
  • education
  • the military
  • private health insurance
  • the NFL

*and if she's not making that argument, i certainly am

Dude, you know the type of socialism I'm talking about so stop with the condescension already. I don't want to have my tax dollars going to social welfare programs (VERY FEW are necessary) specifically to able-bodied LAZY underachievers who choose to somehow finagle their way into A: an EBT card B. Section 8 housing C. other government-paid-for programs (cell phones, assistance to illegal aliens, and other non-essential crap). All this crap is paid for by US. Does that make you feel good? Does it make you feel good that billions of our tax dollars are being squandered away when we could use that money for more:

[*]law enforcement
[*]emergency services such as fire and rescue
[*]public roads, bridges, sewers, airports, seaports, and other physical infrastructure
[*]education
[*]the military
[*]private health insurance
[*]the NFL

For cryin out loud please tell me you're not being serious, OR you just don't understand what I'm talking about.

it's exactly as i said. you like socialism when it benefits you, and you hate it when it doesn't. dress it up with all the bluster and misdirection you want, but that's the hard truth you need to own up to.

you've been fortunate so far in your life, largely thanks to the circumstances of your birth - but if some disaster strikes and you are unable to find work or become disabled, the safety net i happily help pay for will catch you and your family and ensure you are able to keep a roof over your head and food on your table. that's how it is, and that's how it should stay. those who don't need help should help those who do, because the tables could turn at any moment. and maybe they never will - if i die at 63 having never reaped a single benefit of the safety net i spent my life's labor helping to maintain, that'll be perfectly fine with me. how lucky i will have been!

Fortunately, God also gave me the brains to sock money away for just such emergencies. I created my own safety net. And I also prefer to live in a realistic world where everybody works hard, is productive and reaps the rewards of that hard work. I much prefer that over throwing good money at pretentious, utopian fairytale societies sought after by democrats.

You're delusional. That's reminiscent of obammy's moronic claim of "You didn't build that. Somewhere along the way you had help.". ROFL. Classic.

because you and all the other right wing trolls take it WAY out of context.

simple fact: you did not create your own safety net all by yourself because the very system that allowed you to earn money is built upon taxpayer-funded infrastructure and public services (roads and bridges being the most obvious example for a truck driver)

now, were you prudent in your spending and saving, and did you manage your earnings wisely? absolutely, and good on you for it - but the idea that you did it all without a shred of help along the way is the worst kind of myth.

"Right wing trolls?". You lefties seem to have a problem with reality. Nope, nobody helped me get my job, I work my ass off and save my money. And if you think obammy meant what you just attempted to sell me on, you're just an obammy lover and are reading WAY too much into his retarded comment.

i won't disagree with these particular claims as they are not mutually exclusive to mine

which is that even assuming nobody helped you get your job, that you worked your ass off, and that you saved your money, you did not do so in a vacuum. other humans in your neighborhood, city, state, country, continent, and planet contributed, through THEIR labor, to building the environment in which you currently flourish. this is not open to interpretation, this is a demonstrable fact. to deny such is rank stupidity.
