Sexual Temptation

Postby Narrock » Sun Oct 01, 2006 11:39 am

Today, the pastor ended a five-part series about sexual temptation, lust, pornography, and the boastful pride of life. When he first started his sermon about it, everybody was all :hiphop: and :arms: and :pirateparty:

But then he quoted some scripture, like:

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
(Hebrews 13:4)

and

... (treat) older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.
(1 Timothy 5:2)

and

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
(1 Corinthians 10:13)

and

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world - the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does - comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.
(1 John 2:15-17)

and

If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left.
(Hebrews 10:26)

Then everybody was all :ugh: and :eek2: and :ohnoes: (myself included)

Watching the congregation was very :teehee:

The pastor was probably thinking to himself... :owned:

So people thought they were going to get a sermon saying "well, it might be ok, have at it guys" and then when he read the Bible at them, telling them they cant do it, they were shocked?

I dont get what's going on in this thread.

i still wonder why christians think that when you die your going to a greco/roman
version of the afterlife (Elysian fields if good and the underworld if bad)

the whole modern view of hell is based upon dante's inferno and not actual scripture

No, people were laughing because they were all pretty much guilty of some of the things the pastor was talking about. Then they learned why it's important to not give in to lust and temptation. What's not to get?

they were looking for something to throw your way, is all

I should add, that every single time I go to church (which is never nowadays) I feel as though the preacher is speaking specifically to me. I am way too paranoid to go to church. trust me, it's better this way.

The Sunday church I go to is pretty fun actually. The band sounds kind of like Creed, and the pastor is very down-to-earth and casual. He uses a lot of humor in his sermons.

Does the band still continue on without Scott Stap(sp)? I'm sure I can find out in 10 keystrokes or less on Google but I'm lazy.
