Reselling Vendor items

Postby Langston » Tue Feb 15, 2005 9:27 am

What's with the wave of people buying items from vendors, specifically tradeskill patterns/recipes/plans/etc, and then putting them up for sale in the AH for 5-10x the purchase price?

This has to be one of the lamest practices I've seen in this game. I don't know why it irritates me so badly, but it just seems downright slimey and used-carsalesman-esque.

People *should* research things. They *should* spend the time to go to vendors and buy the stuff themselves. They *should* be aware that a white recipe is 95% likely to be a vendor pattern. They don't though - and I guess there's obviously a market to pray on people's stupidity... but it just seems wrong to me. It's not like there's a big problem with faction and being unable to buy from vendors in various places in this game.

Side note: I'm not talking about patterns which are only available to one of the factions (Alliance or Horde)... I can see that as a legitimate and a good business to make money in the Tanaris AH.

Gem studden leather belt.
I got the respawn time, I buy it everytime it refreshs for 25 silver and I start the bidding on it at 2.7 gold. And it sells. Everytime.
Anything that is a rare recipe . I.E has to respawn in the vendor goes for mad money and it will intill idioits stop buying, then well. I'll make money otherways.
To all my freaks out there,

This doesn't bother me nearly as much as the people who put up a stack of Runecloth for 1.5g minimum bid and then 15g buyout hoping people buying in bulk won't notice their price.

You're part of the problem. This is exactly what I'm talking about.

Let me explain why it's a problem:

The people who "camp" rare vendored items to resell them at stupid levels of profit take away the ability for people who are NOT idiots or lazy and are actually visiting the vendor to purchase the item legitimately.

Your example of the belt is a good one. It took me 3 days to finally get that pattern because every time I went to buy it, it wasn't for sale. When I checked the AH, there were 2-3 copies for sale. I, while attempting to do what you're supposed to do, was thwarted because some asshat like yourself buys the pattern as soon as it pops so as to rip off the rest of the people who actually are legitimately doing what was intended.

It's gay. If you do this, you're a faggot.

I don't give a fuck about tradeskills. There's ONE item in the game that I even want that is made by tradeskills and it's a drop not a purchased item.

While I find this deplorable, I also think Blizz is partly to blame. Why not do it if you are making cash? It's not like there is any social impact on anything in WOW.

Nine months from now when ludicrous sums of money are in the economy, then this will die down.

Rare vendor patterns should be BWP. That takes care of the problem.

The responses, with the exception of Lyion and, to some degree, Taxx are indicative of the issues with WoW right now. The other thread regarding people sucking pretty much describes this type of player.

So you won't be able to sew your pants of +12 stamina...big deal do an instance and end up with something twice as good. That's my point, no reason to whine over junk items.

Aryylas - That makes 6 posts... you can get to 10 in this thread! I have faith in you!

Stab - no attack on you.

Taxx - it's the principle of the matter. To put it in another light... example: the Gnomish Vanishing Device (or whatever it's called) has a significant purpose (limited, sure, but it's there)... the same thing is done with it. Sure, many of the patterns (especially in blacksmithing) are useless - but there are a few that have real value to a player for some particular utility or are a good item for level-appropriate gear. These are the ones most often camped as they bring the largest resell values in the AH. It's not a dibillitating problem - but it's an annoyance, for sure.

You know nothing of me, so don't try to assume how I play this game or what type of person I am.

As for you, you pretty much show how much of an asshole you are on these boards.

You don't contribute much besides degrading comments to everyone.

I hope it helps you forget how much of a bitter asshole you are.
