# 2009MY Roadster base price: $109,000 (see 2009 spec sheet for more details)
# Availability approximately 12 months
# $5000 refundable reservation fee starts the process and locks in price*
# Additional $55,000 to lock in a production slot and delivery timeframe.

Electric cars are a novelty of the rich.

this car is about $60,000 cheaper then the lamborghini, and faster thru the quarter. I just wish it had more top end.

Cheaper than any Ferrari, too. Hell, cheaper than a real high end Porsche. Yes, this iteration may be for the rich, but it's the first of its kind, really. Cars themselves were only for the rich for their first several iterations. Wasn't until Ford figured out how to radically cheapen the production process that everyone got one. Give it 5-10 years, and they'll be price competitive, I bet. Especially if there's a major breakthrough in battery technology.

I bet it's not going to be about batteries in the end

it's going to be all about capacitors

quick charge, slow discharge for the win

i think a car like that sounds like the intro-level to having a real ferrari or something similar. a huge downpayment with very little to pay for in the years to come if it's in fact "pennies per mile". just the amount you save on gas would probably make it pay for itself in the years to come, wouldn't it?

but.... do they cost a lot to repair or what? does recharging an electric car every day have a significant impact on your electricity bill? how does owning an electric really compare to the cost of a regular gas car?

i've always had a lot of questions about electric cars. does anybody actually own one here?

It reminds me of the "eco friendly" hand dryers they use in bathrooms for hippies.

I guaranfuckingtee it uses more energy to counter the benefit of it being paperless. Besides the fact that using more paper guarantees more trees to be planted. Win/win...but they don't want you to know that. Recycling and feel-good bullshit is big money to be had at the expense of common sense.
