Gidan']I am sure glad you know why we are fighting in Iraq, because our own government hasn't been able to make up its mind. Maybe you should fill them in.[/quote]
Good to see another liberal in the house Gidan. I'll make it easy for ya, we've deployed 160,000 troops to Iraq because the weapons of mass destruction are rife there (maybe not). It wasn't enough to impose sanctions, hardly enough to impose a no fly zone that covered 70% of that country, wasn't enough that we'd destroyed their air defenses and targeted every tank battalion. Nope that wasnt enough. We're fighting a war in Iraq, because we can.
You may recall a bunch of Islamist renegades flew some airliners into some tall and small buildings here awhile ago. Well you know we kicked the crap outta them in Afganistan but that darn Saddam Hussein was still talkin trash about our mamas so we invaded his sorry ass too.
So you wanna know why our servicemen and women are fighting in Iraq? Because Dubya told em to. And if you know anything about the military you know that when they tell you it's time to go, you go. When they tell you to kill, you kill. And when the politicians say it's all for the greater good of democracy, freedom, equal rights, you belive it. Now..
[quote="Gidan wrote:As for Jill Carrol, her actions were not brave, they were stupid. She put herself in a situation that couldn't possibly have a good outcome. If she didn't understand that her abduction in that situation was probable, then she really didn't have a clue what she was doing. IMO she was released because the people holding her understand America better then we give then credit. Kill 1000 soldiers and Americans will talk about how sad it was, but thats what they signed up for and they died in defense of our country. Capture and kill 1 civilian women, Americans would be screaming for revenge regardless of how stupid she is for being where she was.
Look, I didn't call Jill Carrol heroic, if you can't agree on brave then I don't know what to tell you. The woman was there for many years, reporting for CSM. She had her own methods that would scare the crap outta folks like Richie Engel but she did her thing. She wasn't stupid, she was there, you weren't. I don't think this woman had any starryeyed illusions of what kind of situations she was putting herself into. But she did it anyways, thats brave man.
You come to me and I'll show you a street in Camden NJ you won't make it 3 blocks without pissin your pants in fear. This chick did ten times that for three years, there was nothing stupid about it. Calculated risk, no doubt. But stupidity and cowardace? Man, you folks are so way off. That's why I come on so strong. Granted it doesn't sit well with you all. But it took guts to do what Jill Carrol did even before she was taken hostage. And here's the clincher, no President ordered her to do it, she did it of her own accord. Give the girl some respect.
Don't forget, Jill Carrol isn't some TV icon, she's not some Hollywood starlet she ain't some political person she's just like you, and me...she's just someone who gave it the old college try. I'm glad she'll live to tell the tale, so many that we send there don't. And yes, we send them all, military, media, industry. So yeah Gid, I know why we're in Iraq, don't you?
God made man! But a monkey supplied the glue...
