Gee sorry Minrott, I assumed you were in Wisconsin, so I went to the DoT website and looked up the law. No need to get angry, bro, just pointing out the law actually does say 'you have to do it within 10 days or we can fine you $50'.

I think the relevant statute is http://www.legis.state.wi.us/statutes/Stat0343.pdf
Specifically, Section 343.22 - sections 2 and 4 - section 2 says you have to notify them within 10 days, and section 4 says if you don't they can fine you up to $50.
So yeah, there does seem to be a law.
