65-70 spells, Uber gear, and other assorted high level tips

Postby Lyion » Tue Jan 24, 2006 1:26 pm

After slam dunking the level grind at HHK, I'd love to get some good insider info from Yamori, Don, or other EQ vets about whats the best way to acquire 65-70 spells (I know from OOW, and DON, but nothing specifically easy) and what's the best way to get better gearage.

Thanks

65 spells are probably only available in bazaar these days. If you want to farm them yourself you'd have to kill nameds in Bastion of Thunder, but they're rare drops.

This may have been stealth-nerfed, but I found an area in Stoneroot falls (DoD) where the trash drop 66-68 spell runes about 80% of the time. Kind of hard to describe where it is, but basically the map is divided into 2 big circles --- if you go into the west circle, hug right and there is a narrow strip of land that goes upwards that has a bunch of orc legionaires on it - that's the spot. You need a full group to deal with them since they hit 1000ish and have a ton of HP, but I regularly left group sessions there with 4-5 runes per hour.

Wall of Slaughter/Muramite Proving Grounds have rune drops, but it can take awhile to get them. Best bet may be to do DoN's and sell the crystals in bazaar, and then buy muramite runes that way.

How is xp 65-70?

Reinstalled and logged into my 65 necro couple nights ago, surprised to still see 100+ people hanging out in PoK. Was nostalgic and even fun I daresay. Anyway, how tough are the new levels?

I went from 65 to 70 over this weekend.

Levelling is a breeze, and grinding is simple, quick, and easy to do with monster missions.

there are a surprising amount of people playing.. The game doesn't look like it's lost much if any of its playerbase. With so many zones its not uncommon to see the old ones as ghost towns but thats what happens from such a large world.

This is a true statement, even without double exp I leveled my warrior from 65-70 in less than 2 weeks playing a few missions here and there.

Lyion, I found that the DoN missions are a great way to get uber gear. Each mission rewards you with crystals, which you can then use to buy gear from DoN vendors. The mission I did last night gave about 25 crystals. There is gear that looked like it was PoTime quality for around 400 crystals. Seems like a pretty good way to get exp and gear at the same time.

Another thing I didn't realize is they revamped some of the old world zones. I zoned into Nek Forest and couldn't believe it, the thing is completely changed now. Lavastorm has also changed and it looks great. I did the DoN mission that start in Lavastorm. Apparently there's a good and evil side to these DoN missions, and getting faction with one side or the other opens up other missions. The drake mission was pretty quick and decent exp, not to mention the crystals.

Heh, had fun running some of those missions with ya Lyion. I really think the longer goblin mission is the more worthwhile one to do, even if the aug is the rarer drop.

It's more fun, but less efficient, Don. I know the timer is 45 minutes, but you do twice the work in the goblin mission for essentially the same exp.

I'd like to start doing DON missions for my Rogue/Beastlord.

Even more, I'd like to get a group going in a guild of friendlies to screw around and have fun.

It's amazing how much in EQ is new, especially to someone gone since the days of Velious.

I think my main point though is the chance for the aug.

How many times on one character do you have to do the other one before you don't need the item drops from it? (Hint: if you aren't a druid/monk/beast then it's only once theoretically)

That's a really nice aug, too bad it's rare.

I'm down for DoN missions btw, I've only ever done one and that one I didn't finish as I had to log out quickly after starting ><
