My system and EQ2

Postby togusa » Sun Nov 07, 2004 9:14 am

2.8 P4
1 Gig of Ram
Nvidia Ti4200

What quality settings will I be able to run EQ2 on? Also, I've been thinking about getting one of the new Nvidia cards in the near future for EQ2 and HL2, anyone have one of these and care to comment?

You'll be able to run it fine.

Put it on balanced, and it should work very well.

I've run EQ2 on my 1.5 P4 with 512 RAM and a 4200 very well.

If you can afford it, I'd HIGHLY suggest getting a 6800 GT 256 Meg card.

Your system is fine, and that card would set you on the top tier for the next year, easily.

I used to play on the namless back in the day from like 1999 to end of luclin expan. And im going to be playin eq2 and had a question about my system specs. Really the only ? relates to my vcard.

the system is :

3.0ghz
2x 35gig raid 10k rpm scsi ultra HD's
1.5gb 3200ram
ati radeon 9200 128mem

Will the 9200 get me by for a couple days even if its on extremly low setting. Im ordering a 9800 256mem on monday but it will tak a few days to get it.

I played beta with a 9000 on extreme with little or no lag. I did have to turn off shadows tho.

Thats like buying a 72 Cuda and putting a 4 cylinder engine in it.

I built the computer about 2 months ago. I dont really play computer games besides MMO's and right now not playing any. Had the 9200 laying around and plugged it in and just never got around to upgrading to the newer cards out there.

That's alot of bread for a video card, although I have zero room to complain about that. People gave me alot of shit for my card and so far it's been the best money I've ever spent for my PC (plus I got a free game out of it too).

I have to agree; always get the best you can afford. In the long run it's going to cost you less because of less time spent tweaking and trying to overclock and shit like that.

It'll be interesting to see what EQ2 runs like on it.

Like a dream, if the screenshots and demo's I have seen are even close to real.

Purely awe inspiring...

I have almost the same setup. It runs decently with almost all the settings down but if you get more than 5 or 6 mobs on the screen you get to watch a slideshow.

You'll be able to run it just fine, if you know anything about tweaking graphics options you'll be able to customize them and have it run nice while still looking great.

Even getting a 5700+ card will make you that much better.

(I have a 9700 pro right now and it runs fine, could be better though)

I ran EQ2 in beta on a 9700 pro till my computer fried 2 weeks ago. I didn't have any problems. The 9700 pro is not far below the 9800. I couldn't max it out but I could keep things fairly high.

That said, the new card I have is the nvidia 6800 (no not the GT :( ) and the game looked AWESOME. Also teh NVidia cards are very easy to OC and add more cooling to. I have been playing a little farcry while I wait for live with everything maxxed and unless there are 5 guys and grenades going off I get no lag at all.

Even with the best card you have to tweak it. EQ2 takes alot more effort to get balanced on your system. WOW is pretty low intensity graphics so you can pretty much crank it up and leave it. EQ2 you have to play around alot. I kept shadows off and the close detailed models to 5 and have no problem in crowds.

IMO always turn shadows off. They SUCK your card dry.

If EQ2 runs half as good as WoW did on my system, I'll be pretty happy. WoW ran flawless, I was pretty damn surprised.

EQ2

I was very surprised at how well WoW ran on mine too. I have a 3.06ghz chip overclocked at 3.6ghz (water-cooling rocks) with 1gb of PC2700 Ram and a Radeon 9600 XT Pro 256mb video card and WoW ran flawlessly will full graphics. Even when I went on large group raids I had no lag at all.

In EQ2 if I knock everything down to minimum graphics the game is playable. At medium its stil playable but lags quite a bit and full graphics is beautiful for taking screen shots but looks like a really crappy slide show. Above medium graphic settings and with flora and shadows and water turned on or to anything but thier lowest setting the game is flat out unplayable because of lag.

I won't be buying EQ2 but I'll see you all in WoW
