Anyone else filled with dread at this impending 'revamp'?

from ask soe #37 http://eq2vault.ign.com/View.php?view=a ... lect_id=43

Sassee: Part of the changes coming to spells and combat arts is to adjust how much damage the various classes do in relation to each other. Can you tell us how the different subclasses will rank in relative damage potential?
Steve "Moorgard" Danuser: Without giving the precise DPS numbers we intend each class to have, I can list how the classes will relate to one another in damage output. There are basically five groupings that classes fall into, from highest amount of damage output to the lowest.

First group:
Wizard/Warlock
Assassin/Ranger

Second group:
Conjurer/Necromancer (using damage pet)
Brigand/Swashbuckler

Third group:
Coercer/Illusionist, Conjurer/Necromancer (using tank pet)
Troubador/Dirge
Bruiser/Monk

Fourth group:
Berserker/Shadowknight
Paladin/Guardian

Fifth group:
Fury/Warden
Defiler/Mystic
Inquisitor/Templar

Keep in mind that these aren't absolutes. A Guardian who concentrates on damage output and upgrades his or her offensive abilities could surpass a Berserker who focuses on defensive capabilities.

Im worried. I dont like this rigid outline of dps. The only way this wont piss me off is if they keep the tiers close, so that, say, a fury can do significant DPS if healing is covered. And why the fuck does every priest class have to do less dps than every fighter class? And every fighter do less than every scout? Just reeks of traditionalism, no inventiveness.

Didnt SOE revamp combat in SWG? Didnt that revamp suck?

Given I haven't really played my 34 Ranger in months due to him doing HUGELY LESS DPS than pure tanks, I for one am looking forward to this revamp.

The SWG Combat Revamp was excellent and changed the game from mediocre to very good.

Healing classes HAVE to do less DPS than Fighters and scouts because they are HEALING SUPPORT CLASSES.

Fighters TANK and absorb damage. They are supposed to do LESS damage than Scouts, because Scouts CANNOT absorb damage, mitigate, and tank.

Jesus, do you fucking want two classes in the game? You need to have balance and this is a move in the right direction.

No, I dont want 2 classes. but I want more than 4. Why cant there be more variety within the archetype? Just because someone says so? Furies cant mitigate, all priests are having their parry skill taken away, so whats left? Sow? So every healer will be heal + buff, debuff, every tank will be mitigation, agro, every scout will be dps, utility, every mage will be dps, utility.

Why not just scrap it and go with Fighter, Mage, Priest, Scout?

I really dont see why it would be such a bad idea to have a scout that can tank some, a priest that can nuke some, a fighter that can do some decent damage, an int caster with a couple of weak heals. I know balancing needs to be done (mostly to fighters cough), but Im not sure a complete revamp was in order. Guess we'll see when the dust settles.

I get what you are saying, but the game is built on four pillers.. Damage, CC, Mitigation, and healing. Each 'area' has to specialize and do what it is meant to do.

What you want would be more inline with a 'skill' system.

As of now this game desperately needs this combat upgrade. My Ranger is worthless. Especially when you look at him next to a Bruiser or Berserker who can tank and absorb better than me, and also do twice my DPS.

As my ranger strains to kill blues, and the Fury next to me chain pulls and kills reds I think that class is a tad over the top.

Again, it needs to be balanced in relation to grouping and to help the Scouts who have been worthless since the game started. I quit for five months after I saw a same level Guardian parse FIVE times the DPS of my Ranger.

I can relate to your concerns Mo, and there's certainly a chance SOE will screw things up but as a disgruntled Ranger I gotta say I'm happy to see changes.

My assasin lvl 25 is completely worthless, all fighters do more damage than me, and all fighters obviously tank alot better than me

way to over-simplify there guy.

Guess who the first one to mention tank/mages is? You.

EQ1 necro is a good example. Pinch heals, pinch CC, even a rez (costly), and not in any way overpowered. Several different strategies available to one class.

It is puzzling why they didnt leverage more of the EQ class structure and knowledge into EQ2.

The class setup in EQ2 is woeful. The only game with a worse class setup has gotta be WOW. I love the EQ2 game, but EQ1s class structure fowns it.

as far as it looks right now the revamp is just going to put the classes in the DPS areas they were supposed to be in anyway

And cause the 40% of players that play tanks right now to cry.

The changes will most likely be good. I have very little concern after how well SOE fixed SWG. And comparativly this is a small set of changes.

Most of the changes will be nerfs as well, another thing thats good. The game is too easy as it is.

Most epic kills have been just a matter of who gets there first, you aren't going to lose.

Regular killing is a joke, if you aren't fighting reds everyone gets pissed because its too easy and the exp is too slow. Even with reds a decent group needs 3-4 adds to be in trouble.

Not as easy as WOW by far, but way too easy now. I want the challenge EQ1 used to have.

If those 40% switch classes and bring the balance to around 25% I think their goal will be achieved.
