As of today all racial/class level limits are removed from F2P. Coin limit removed and the quest limit removed. Only thing left that's "restrictive" is what rarity of gear you can equip and you can easily get item unlocks for that. You can now experience the whole game up to level 55 (the cap atm) without a ton of restrictions. Here's the new matrix:

I keep trying to play this every once in a while, but GW2, SWTOR, and PS2 for me are far better games and all are free, also.

Vanguard has a wonderful design document, but the game really needs a graphics, UI, and combat complete overhaul.

I just finished Tropico 4. I've been playing X3 and Skyrim still, as well. Vanguard would be a fun game with a steady group, but it's just not good for me and my current dirty casual gamer identity. If we can get a group, I'd be interested in playing some Vanguard. My problem is this isn't a very good solo game, IMHO.

Sithos and I are in a guild and have been having an absolute blast with the game. Lvl 45 now and I solo'd at least 1/2 of that if not more. You can solo all the way to 55 but not sure you'd play an MMO if you just want to solo. The graphics/UI/Combat system are just fine, IMO. There are some performance issues here and there but nothing that's ruined any fun for me.

I'll fire it up tomorrow. Any tips for soloing? I have a blood mage right now, but wouldn't mind checking out another class.

Disciple is the best solo class although I think for the most part, all classes are able to solo to a certain extent. One nice thing is that 2 people of just about any class combo can efficiently work though much of the content and progress.

Just checking this out again. Haven't touched it since beta. I must say that it looks to have a really good F2P model. Kind of wonder why the fuck Everquest's model is so piss poor in comparison.

Also, rolling a paladin (imagine that).

Is there some trick to get this guy to quit stuttering?

I have an Oc'ed i5-2500 with a 6970 with 2G running at 1920x1200. It can crush pretty much every game, but Vanguard on the Isle of Dawn still stutters a ton. It's not like the engine is rendering anything that much...

What servers you on? I'm in between games and wouldn't mind goofing around with something new(ish).

I'm on right now. Discodevil on the newbie isle. I just saw Durothil but he is mute. It helps to turn the settings all the way down and then turn them up until performance balances out.

I think the stuttering comes from streaming the textures from disc. I know when the game first came out it was over 20GB in size. They shrunk it somehow but the engine does need some performance tweaking in areas. Overall it's not bad except when you "chunk", it will stutter for me for a second.

I spent a good 15 minutes tweaking the settings and it still stutters, regardless of changes. It does lessen a bit and it's not show stopping, just a bit annoying.

I'm Kyojitsu on Telon. I played for about an hour last night. I still have my level 10 and 20 characters from before, but decided to start over since it's been such a long time. I'll be on tonight if you want to mess around, Zan.

There were actually a decent amount of people in the newbee area.

Hmmm. I get a solid 60fps with the occasional hiccup, usually when I'm rifting in to a new area. Even on a 20+ person raid, I had decent performance. i7 2600 with a GTX 550ti.

I looked for ya last night. Ended up grouping with Duro for a while and chatted with Zan as well. The server population has definitely increased since they went F2P.

I decided to play my character in her native newby zone, which according to Toss is a really bad idea. I'm sticking with my bad idea though. My character name is terrible due to no options. I think it's Quolyta. I might be on a bit tonight. Lvl 8 or 9 Psionics thingy.

Question. Whats the death penalty post 11. I can't stand losing my corpse and or losing exp. Not anymore atleast.

The reason I suggest going through the newbie island is that it does a good job of explaining the basics of the game, is a lot of fun, sets you up with a nice set of duds including a cloak which you won't get another opportunity to get until lvl 20ish and you get the "lucky charm" which scales with you the whole game. I think mine right now adds +20 to all my stats, etc. It takes about 2hrs to finish the adventure part of the Isle, you'll be level 10, have all the loot and be ready to set forth. Highly recommend NOT skipping the newbie isle on your first toon. The starting city quest lines a kinda lame.

When you die post 11, you leave a tombstone. If you get back to the tombstone and click it, you get like 90% of the XP back, if you can't get back to your stone, you have to summon it to one of the altars and eat the XP loss. You have "soulbound" items that stay with you when you die so you won't be naked. I think it's a bit forgiving myself but it's enough to make dying kinda suck.

The newb zone Isle of Dawn or whatever had quite a few people anytime i've been on. Sitting at level 10 at the moment. Ran with Toss last night, and I will be on again tonight seeing as I live in the boonies and have nothing better to do.

7 degrees here in Ohio.. I'm with ya.

I'm doing at least 2 hours of reading a night, but I'll be on until about 8 EST for an hour or so. Not quite sure what I'm doing as it's been a while since I last played.

On the good side I haven't had any stuttering tonight.

This is one of the reasons why I enjoy the game. They give you some power to begin with unlike EQ but you still need to be careful or you'll get your ass handed to you.

I thought I saw a post about not wanting to pay monthly fees anymore? Anyhow, I understand that position but I honestly have no problem supporting a game with my $ as long as I feel like I'm getting something for that money. It takes staff and utilities to keep the servers running and updates coming. With a game like Wow, who cares? They're making so much money, it's sick but with a game like Vanguard, every dollar counts.
