Whats a good Everquest friendly antivirus program? (meaning, no boxes popping up randomly that crash EQ, no automatic virus scans without the option to turn that off). Preferably one that is very easy to renew your subscription to.

I've had it with Norton, they suck ass to the max and they don't deserve my money. :-x

I prefer AVG myself

AVG Kerio Firewall edition has been working perfect for EQ,eq2.swg.wow,etc

http://www.grisoft.com

AVG Professional edition works like a charm as well
if you are too cheap to buy you can also use the free edition...you have to dig on their webpage for it though.

one thing to remember about avg is that avg pro and kerio costs around 39.00 to 58.00 but that is for a 2year license unlike norton which is per year at 45 to 70.

AVG > All, though

I really haven't found one yet that tops them. My only beef with Norton is how they chew up so damn much RAM.

IMO AVG > Norton in every way.

Norton has a really bad habbit of blocking all email, reverting to old setting no matter how many times you change them and as a program assumes it knows beter then you about what to block and what not to. I cant count the number of customer who called when I worked for an ISP whom couldn't get online because norton decided that Microsofts dialup service was a threat to the computer. Or the ones who called becasue norton was blocking all incomming and outgoing email becasue it was a virus,

Ah, i completely forgot about that aspect. I only use online email readers (like yahoo, gmail, etc) so I didn't know about the email problem.

BTW I only pay about 8 bucks a year to renew my subscription for AV definition updates.

Downside to AVG is there is no XP_64 version of it yet, or atleast there wasn't for the XP_64 box I was running.

For those who have trouble locating the free version of AVG

http://free.grisoft.com

follow the link at the botom of the page to "Download your AVG Free" Then at the botom of that page should be the link to download the latest free version.

AVG is not a resource hog.

just remember guys no Anti virus is perfect and a anti virus is only as good as long as it is updated

Ouchy I have tried both, extensively and AVG is by far the better deal and better winner.

If your looking to buy the paid edition stay with the professional edition of if you want the added firewall protection so it is something like Norton Internet Security, without the resource load and the possiblity of a winsock frag then go with AVG Kerrio.

Thank you so much! I have the AVG/Kerio setup and am loving it! You guys weren't kidding-the difference in resources used between Norton and this is very noticeable!

Thank you very much, again!
