How can I connect 2 comps to each other

Postby webberran » Thu Jan 26, 2006 1:22 pm

This is for work:

COmp 1) has usb, ethernet is hooked to work network so realy cant use that, xp pro

Comp 2 (actually a canon cd4070nw digital document imaging system) has a stripped down XP on it, has ethernet and a usb.

The retards at canon made it so you cant do security patchs on the OS (the canon software sites on top of the os and unless you go into technician mode you never see win xp). So we cant hook this 8K machine to our network. It has an ethernet port (designed to scan, burn to cd and or email docs plus let you talk to its harddrive over a network to retire docs scanned in), and a USB.

Ultimatelly I would love to use the desktop as a gateway to our network but doubt thats good (security issues?)..

But how do I hook the 2 pcs together while still keeping the ethernet live on the desktop?

WOuld I use a USB cable to talk to both? And either tell me here or point me to a good article on how to setup via whatever wizard in XP a "mini network"?

thanks in advance.

Tikker made me laugh for some reason. :)
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

I mean, if it's just a small business, I'll help you, but if you're just a jackass adding shit to your cubicle that IT already turned down, eat a bowl of dick

We have an IT department, and due to secuirty/patch issues its not networked. it was bought after Canon said yea the OS can be updated (i asked them specifically for this reason).

So I just want to have a pc talk to it, stand alone, if someone can tell me about XP networking, if possible with a crossover cable or usb great. if you dont want to help, noprob.
