AMD question

Planning o upgrading my comp. Like AMD over P4....

I dotn plan on using 64 bit apps, is there a reason to go to the 64 chip? Does it run 32 bit apps better than whatever the equivalent speed reg AMD chip runs them at?

Also if you have a sec.. i know its subjective, but do you have motherboard/cpu combo suggestions....

figuring around 300-400 max for board/chip.. more towards 300
