I'm contemplating ordering a 42" westinghouse lcd tv from these guys, so sent in a basic email asking their position on returns and dead pixels

I dunno about anyone else, but their response really gave me a much better feeling about them

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in shopping with us. With regard to your question, we would cover the return shipping on the product no matter the number of dead pixels on the unit, even 1 dead pixel. However, I must take this opportunity to comment on this particular topic. A very well known fact about LCD and Plasma technology is that the inherently tend to have some stuck/dead pixels. Often, these pixels are only noted when the screen fades to black or to a certain color. When it comes to shopping for a LCD, I charge you to keep in mind that leading manufacturers have higher standards for defective pixels. Therefore, you can usually purchase from those companies with better confidence that you won't see white, black, red, green, or blue dots on your TV programs that won't go away. Thus, when it comes to stuck/dead pixels, buying the least expensive television that we sell probably will not be in your best interest as being not as stringent when it comes to dead pixels is one of the ways they keep the prices much lower than the competition and I've heard much more feedback about this on the very low priced televisions versus televisions from more reputable brands.

We look forward to having you purchase with us and please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with making your product selection!

granted, you could interpret it as him taking the chance to upsell a higher priced TV, but I was pretty impressed with the answer.(ie return shipping totally covered if the screen sucks)

Crutchfield (at least in the US) has always been one of the best in terms of customer service. They are generally considered grossly overpriced though, so I guess you get what you pay for.

for the TV's that I'm looking at, they're the same price, or sometimes cheaper than the local big box stores. with no shipping cost on items, and what looks to be an excellent return policy, there's really not much reason to not buy from them

If they're the same price then I would agree with you, they're one of the best.
