Any FreeBSD users out there?

Postby Lueyen » Wed Oct 05, 2005 4:59 pm

I just started using version 5.4, was using 4.2 forever and decided just to backup what I wanted and reload instead of trying to go the upgrade path.

Anyway having trouble getting an old NE2000 card to work, the driver (ed) is not loading on startup. I've done a custom kernel to make sure, but I think the generic already had it built in.

One of the changes I have noticed is the /boot/devices.hints file now contains the address and irq settings as well as a disable flag, I have set these correctly. It also appears that I needed some entries to enable the driver in rc.conf. Again entries are there, to no avail. I ran Plusdiag to make sure that the card is indeed set to the address and irq I've assigned, and still the driver doesn't load at boot time.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking that linux may have some similarities here also, so even if it doesn't apply directly to FreeBSD, Linux based ideas might also be helpful.
