Which is better at the high-end? Any strong opinions one way or another?

You really like to see people fight, don't you?

I prefer ATI cards. It seems every Nvidia I've had has caused problems.
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

If your talking high end as in the best of the best, nvidia currently has it with dual SLI 7800 GTX's. The Asus Extreme N7800 GT Dual is probably the single best vidoe card there is, its performance is almost identical to running dual SLI 7800 GT's.

See what we've inspired? LOL :)

Exactly opposite for me on the ATI cards.
Nvidia though, I have had nothing but outstanding performance. I love em (then again, I am also partially biased because of Voodoo, and I think the ATIs know it.)

yep the 7800GTX is the king, either single flavor or Sli. Ive got them in Sli, and they are fantastic, no complaints at all.

Does no one else think it's insane that people use 2 video cards for 1 monitor?

I think its nuts and a complete waste of money myself. What could you possibly need to do that takes to video cards to handle it?

EQ2? DOOM3? Battlefield 2? Any new game coming out in the next 2 years?

2 video cards to run one monitor? I have a dual-core CPU too, is that stupid? OMG two CPUs to run one computer!

Hey Im not saying it wont. But it wont run it at 16x AA either :)

Oh well, Im going to stop defending myself. It's a hobbyist thing, no explanation necessary. People spend money on their hobbies, having a nice PC is mine.

It runs at 8x AA at about 30 fps iirc, not stellar, but then again I can't tell the difference between 4x AA, 8x AA, & 16x AA =p

are you also one of those people who claim to be able to tell the difference between 90 and 75 fps?

Cool, thanks for the input. I'm not at the buying stage yet, but I've heard bad things about ATI's latest release.

I have a X850 Radeon and have not had anything but smooth sailing. From my end as a technician I have had equal cards come back NVIDIA and ATI. returns on both cards are about even. However I can tell you this. Trying to get NVIDIA to warranty is about as pain as getting your nuts crushed with a croquet mallet.

I currently run an SLI system with two 6800 ultra cards. It gets over 175 fps in WoW and practically walk through zonelines in EQ. On 3dmark05 it scored 12k.

I've used ATI and Nvidia and haven't had issues with either :dunno:

I still remember popping in my first 3DFX card and playing GLQuake for the first time.
