Currently I manage capacity on my companies networks (VoIP, Internet, DIV (that's TV and Video on demand))
Basically I trend data, incorporate the marketing forecast and compare that to current statistical benchmarks in an attempt to provide engineers/provisioners with an exhaustion of resource date
ie, upgrade this switch/add another pipe/add a card to that router/etc by June 30th, or we'll have an outtage
it's been a couple years, and while a pretty good job, it has the big problem of being an afterthought in the provisioning process a lot of tis
new equipment goes in, and no one thinks to notify me, or provide me with a set of metrics to monitor. Or in some cases, no one knows exactly what needs to be monitored (including the vendor, jeje?)
Anyways, long story short, Ive got an interview for a Support job that basically will be responsible for dealling with all the deficiences I've just listed. I'll work with vendors to come up wtih the list of prime metrics for the alarming/capacity groups to monitor
that and I'll get a bit of raise to boot
Now I just need to remember how rmon works
