Anyone have a Plasma TV?

Postby Lyion » Fri Feb 24, 2006 9:46 am

I'm in no rush, but I'm really impressed with the HDTV Plasma TVs and looking to pick one up.

I'm researching these via AVS/FW/etc, but curious if anyone has individual impressions of these and good/bad experiences?

Get one with a high native resolution and plug a computer into it directly.

I setup a 42" Samsung for my office and it is badass.

The panasonic ones seem very quiet and have amazing picture quality. I'm comparing them to LCD ones, but right now I prefer the Plasma Picture.

Although this is also something I'm considering.

Samsung is probably the best your going to find. We have a few Sony and Samsung at work we use for various things and the Samsung are amazing.

I'm asian so of course I'm down with Sony. However, Panasonic has always been able to match up with Sony in terms of quality and their prices tend to be 20-30% less than Sony's.

Pioneer makes the nicest plasma tv's I've seen. Blow away just about any other TV in side by side comparisons.

I'm still holding off another year before making a decision.

We looked at Plasma and then looked at DLP and said hell with plasma. I don't like the idea of spending thousands of dollars on something that isn't repairable. And we got a 52" DLP for the price of the 42" plasma. I can't tell the difference in picture from viewing difference, but then I'm not really picky either. Anything with component input looks awesome to me.

We figured, we're not going to hang it on the wall and we've got the room, may as well get the bigger DLP HDTV.

DLP is the way to go right now. It'd the best bang for the buck but we want a TV to hang on the wall in the family room so will look at a plasma or LCD when the time comes.

The Plasma picture to me is much better than the DLP. Plus, you can't beat the form factor. The larger bulkier TVs take up too much room.

From what I've read that's not accurate.

Go look at a sharp aquos side by side with the plasma you like

the aquos look really really nice to my eyes, and is likely what I'll get in 2 years(when we have full on HDTV over dsl)

It really depends on what you are going to use it for. I just bought a 32 inch Samsung LCD for my computer room. Just using it for games/pc/movies. It really looks incredible.

Plasmas have better color than LCDs in my experience, whiter whites and blacker blacks... DLP just has a weird look to it that gives me a headache after a while as well.

My old Toshiba 55" is staying there, as it still kicks ass. The new LCD is going in my office!
