Sound issues

Postby Gypsiyee » Sat Mar 11, 2006 2:35 pm

So, I have this work laptop.. brand new - sound was working fine oh say.. 3 days ago. Its a toshiba um.. 6100? satellite pro. dont know where to find the actual model # on these things, I'm more accustomed to thinkpads.

Anyway.. came to work the next day, went poof. The only thing I can think of is that the sound card went bad, but let me know if I'm forgetting anything

Windows Update
Uninstalled and reinstalled hardware
Drivers
Nothing is muted

I'm probably forgetting listing something, but as far as I can tell I've exercised all of the obvious issues.

Any help is appreciated~

aha! I told myself to try that and forgot to do it

Will bring them tomorrow and see. They're internal speakers, btw, if that matters at all.

I was going to say it, but I don't quite take her as the typical retarded woman, so I withheld...

lots of times laptops have 3 different places to set volume, and they're not always sync'd

Sorry, forgot I posted this so missed some of your replies

Try to bear in mind that I'm not a moron >.< I figured 'nothing is muted' implied that 'volume isn't down' was inclusive - while I'm no genius, I'm basic tech and networking support for my company - I'm not completely retarded, promise.

At any rate.. the volume started working again 3 days later (quite literally out of the blue), but now there's a hardware issue and it's not turning on (yes, I've gone through all the typical powering steps, no it's not my adapter, no it's not my battery) - looking for some insight on if it's a common problem with my particular model, I learned that it just so happens to be a common issue but that it'll take me disecting it to fix the issue.. and the innards and assembly aren't really my forte as much as software is.. so looks like I'll have to drive an hour and a half to the closest guy that supports my warranty anyway =\

That's what happens when the director of sales orders it without asking tech support what to order =) Typically, we only have thinkpads (which have excellent warranty and hardware support, I must say) - of course, he goes and orders a fucking Toshiba, so I get the 'special' one.

All in all, it runs really nicely.. as soon as the hardware issues get straightened out, I'll be ok!

Really, Tikker?

I mean, it's obviously just my opinion.. but I've had more issues with this Toshiba than I've had with any of the 20+ thinkpads we have. It could just be a run of bad luck, but I also certainly prefer IBM's service over Toshiba's.

Its all luck of the draw, I used a Thinkpad for three years and never had an issue, also. I've heard horror stories about them though.

It seems problems go in batches with laptops.A certain model will suck, where another will be fairly bulletproof.

IBM sold their laptop division to Lenovo last year.

All laptops are shit. Your best bet as a company is to buy the cheapest ones you can and expect to have to replace the entire rollout in less than 2 years.
