ram issue

Postby Tuggan » Fri May 05, 2006 2:14 pm

my computer sucks, at the moment its only running 512megs of ram. i decided to add another 512 just to keep up with the minimum reqs for alot of the games coming out etc...

but every time i add the new ram windows xp pro goes apeshit and runs around in a continual circle and i cant even get it to load most the time. first it'll go into the "safe mode" options, and it wont load anything but safe mode. if i try to load regular mode, it will get to the "windows is loading your personal settings" then just restart... then it checks my whole computer over, tries to load and takes a big shit again. on occasion i get all the way to my desktop before it causes some kinda error that shuts windows down and starts to "dump physical memory to disk" or some crap.

i take out the new stick of ram, so im back to 512 and everything goes back to normal. wtfux is goin on with my computer?

The new stick could be bad. Have you tried taking out the old stick and just trying to boot with the new stick?

Could also be a bad RAM slot.

i fucked with it for like an hour, and i dont even recall now. i'll try that and see what happens.

also like to add that the startup screen from the motherboard (i think) that loads before windows that shows your computer info does recognize the ram, i think. it at least says 1024 instead of the 512.
