IE7 just killed my HTPC

Postby Tikker » Sat Dec 09, 2006 5:13 pm

for whatever reason, I allowed windows update to install IE7 on my HTPC

(i don't surf on it, so shouldn't have bothered, but whatever)

anyways
to finish the update, it forces you to reboot

upon reboot, my onboard NIC has now poofed
I can't even see it in the hardware config

any ideas other than re-install windows? (which I'm probably going to do shortly)

Check your BIOS

Uninstall IE7

If it's onboard, it will be in your bios as a setting to enable or disable it.

re-installed MCE

no NIC

looking at the NIC itself, when it's plugged in it's flashing orange
manual says that means it's communicating with the LAN, but obviously it never goes green to indicate that it's done something

anyone have any experience RMA'ing a product with MSI?
