Fire up Ubuntu on your laptop! It plays WOW btw. better than Vista!

I loaded up my secondary PC with Vista. It has an AMD 3700, 2 Gigs of DDR RAM, ATI 1950 Pro 512 Meg... annnnnddd... It played all my games like crap. Much slower than my Media Center PC, even with much less RAM and a far weaker video card.

There's a reason Dell has started offering Ubuntu on their laptops, as well as XP again.

omg i don't think i have near enough computer smarts to figure out linux ><

i found some random message board (via googling for wow problems whilst at work . . . i love my job, because it looks like i'm just doing research for an article lol) that had a lot of suggestions for what to do (not surprisingly, almost everyone who posted was having the same problems). i'm writing it all down and will try different things when i get home. also, they referred me to an updated graphics driver, so hopefully that'll help, too.

There honestly should be no reason you can't get XP drivers for anything on a new system...

i downloaded pretty much everything i could find, and nothing worked. vista has already been reinstalled and so has wow and all of my other antivirus programs and stuff so i'd just as soon keep things how they are now and try my best to make do with what i have, which is, unfortunately, vista.

i get that you don't like vista, sir, but it's what i've got to work with, so i'm going to do the best that i can to make it work with these other fixes and wait until there are decent patches and whatnot to make things better.

not really, you should be able to shut down most of it.

Honestly I don't run anything except a hardware firewall, strict HTML settings, & manual scan of all executables that I download & I haven't had anything more severe than a tracking cookie in a year.

Don't delete it off your hard drive, just tell it to not load into memory when your computer launches. Still useful to launch and scan your machine occasionally, but just don't have it run 24x7.

What anti-virus are you using?

I think this thread is about tech supporting leah, not complaining about WIndow's Vista like it's your ex.

Whew...that's not your problem then.

If you had said Norton or McAfee it would be a different story. :)
