Utorrent help

Postby Hylissa » Wed Aug 01, 2007 3:31 pm

Well, I finally got the dreaded email from the ISP that says I have exceeded my bandwidth quota ><. What are some types of things I can do to limit the bandwidth - I can't set the upload limit really low, or my ratio will be f'd.

I am on a torrent site that I need to keep my ratio up, and also have had to open additional ports outside of the normal ones that bittorrents usually use. Could too many open ports contribute to the bandwidth issue?

Also, I have been having an issue for a few days now: If Utorrent is on, and you shut it down -OR- utorrent is on, computer locks up solid, and I have to power it down, my router fucks up and needs to be reset to get the internet back (which is making others unhappy when they are raiding or PvPing and get disconnected :eyecrazy: )

Not sure if the latter is a computer problem, utorrent problem, router problem ... any help would be appreciated.

According to most Canadians, downloading others IP isn't stealing, though....

To answer your question, Hylissa, change the ports you are using and be sure you are using encryption. If you use a port that is associated with another function, often times it'll slip by the ISP.

Ask Tikker. I'm sure he'd give you a hand. A couple of fingers at least.

Changing your client to operate on different ports now and then is usually an easy way to circumvent their nazi bullshit bandwidth monitors.

it's actually not here, it's the uploading that's the no-no

we pay a tax on recordable media that allows for the downloading

that being said, Hylissa, you need to limit the upload and download, and probably the raw number of sockets that utorrent is using
