Bluetooth

Postby Tikker » Wed Mar 26, 2008 8:30 am

Anybody know how to make this automagically work?

specifically I'd like to get filetransfers between 2 XP machines working, and then at some point, audio over bluetooth

its installed, the laptops see each other, they exchange a passkey just fine

but the file transfer just craps out. they don't seem to be able to negotiate at all

firewalls are turned off on both devices

File transfer service needs to be enabled and configured on both.

that's about the extent of the instructions I've seen on the net too

any details on exactly how to do that?

I haven't been able to find where to turn on/install bluetooth services at all

Bluetooth doesn't work like windows networking or file sharing. It's much lower level. First you have to pair both devices. I recommend using a password over 6 digits. I've had trouble using anything less. Then you have to send a request from the machine you want to send the file from to the machine you want to send the file to. Then you accept the request and it will THEN transfer the data.

I had to do this a lot when I was developing for smartphones / bluetooth printers. Oh and make sure you have the drivers supplied with the bluetooth devices. Windows default has never worked for me.

Also, if you happen to be using a smartphone, you have to disable any calls you are placing etc. Most only come equipped with 1 radio that does both.

the laptops are paired

the file transfer is straight ftp over radio, so it's really not that much lower of a level

and I think you're missing the point naethyn~

when I scan each device for the services they're running, I don't see the file transfer service. I need to turn that on, but can't see where to do that

all the instructions I've seen just say "well, turn it on" but either I'm missing some management software on both devices, or it's just tucked away somewhere that I haven't seen

Right click on any file. Go to send to. Then choose the bluetooth connection you have established. This should allow you to send the files.

(i thought you were looking for something like my network places functionality)
