He used the most ignorant sounding, little-kid analogy there is.

No intelligent person believes there is some being sitting on a cloud in our sky...

I seriously doubt anyone here has died and come back to tell us all there is no such thing as a God. So why in the hell are all these intelligent people so adamant in their ignorance?

Nah, there are some nasty hatchet job books on just about anyone of any notoriety associated with religion. What's amazing are people believe things without doing the 30 seconds of research it'd take to debunk most of them.

I'll let the fact that you used "budha" in your argument slide. That was ridiculous in its own right.

Why do I need to research and get proof to believe? If I have faith that it is true, then it should be true, right? I mean that's what people are saying when they believe in The Almighty. No proof that he exists, just faith...

Yes, Mother Theresa obviously had no impact, nor do any Christian Missionaries helping the poor.

there is a ton of proff that "God" exists.
Unfortunately the majority of this proff points to him being a self serving, jellous alien which has the goal to inslave humanity.

Harrison, what part of "I AM NOT AN ATHIEST" did you miss? Hmmmm?

Maybe if you'd actually, you know, finished school, or even actually bothered to go to even a community college (for which you could have, you know, actually gotten financial aid which would have made up for not working) you might have actually achieved the skill of Reading Comprehension, as well as the ability to state your own opinions instead of latching on to someone else's posts and saying "Yeah! What that guy said is great!" or "You're all idiots for having opinions about dieties!"

I said you were atheist?

Holy shit! Damn those fingers and their typing without my knowledge.

I was commenting on the fact that A LOT of the people here use that fucking moronic analogy about a man in the sky everytime they want to talk about a God and why it is false.

You using it is what brought that rant out.

Hello people of Africa. You will get food if you follow our lord Jesus Christ.

In complete agreement here. I really detest most missionaries. Their entire purpose is to go into foreign countries, tell the residents, "Hey, you know your belief system that's worked for you for possibly thousands of years? It's WRONG! You're DOOOMED unless you change! YOU WILL SUFFER FOREVER UNLESS YOU CHANGE TO WHAT WE SAY IS BEST FOR YOU!" They then proceed to only offer food and other services to the local community to people who agree to be indoctrinated and sit through the brainwashing meetings. Anyone who doesn't go, doesn't get the food or help.

Now, I'm sure there are a FEW missionaries out there who go the other route, effectively doing "Here, we're giving you this food, and we're out here to help you because that's what we want to be doing. The faith we follow tells us this is good work to be doing, and that we should help our fellow man. If anyone is interested in learning more, feel free to meet with us individually, but regardless of whether or not anyone at all decides to, we'll still be out here helping, and giving out the food you need." Unfortunately, that's not the way most missionaries operate.

Wow, thats so far off base and confined to hateful rhetoric that no response is needed. Especially from those who have never been to the third world, let alone done anything for the poor there...

What a shame we have all those damn missionaries helping poverty stricken nations. They sure do screw up the world!

Oh, BTW, major charity/philanthopic organization that has no religious ties whatsoever: The David and Lucille Packard Foundation. http://www.packard.org/. They give out > 200 million every year to worthy causes and organizations. Packard was truly a great man.

I agree with you, Harrison. He did use a childish anaolgy. But, you have to remember, to him (and to me) believing that there is some omnipotent being that created the Universe is a bit childish.

True missionarys who go out and truely help those in need without forcing their own person beliefs on those they are helping really are great for the world and should be praised for their efforts.

The ones who go into places that really need help and basicly say "We will help you, all you have to do is take our God and your God and believe as we do." Are just forcing their religion on the world with the pricetag of peoples lives. Join us or die.

Except that's not how it works, as anyone who has been there would know.
Go check out a Missionary for yourself, Gidan, if you'd care to know the truth. If you want to truly understand then learn firsthand. Don't do what some do who have an Axe to grind, without having a real clue.

There is an ecumenical bent to missions, but it isn't at all like the silliness being stated.

So there are not and have never been missions where religion was forced upon the people they were there to help?
