Mcmillian on the move

Postby Xaiveir » Thu Jul 07, 2005 10:17 am

After spending 12 years as a player and 5 as a coach Nate Mcmillian will be announced as the Portland Trailblazers new coach.

This was a shocking move from a Seattle Sonics fan point. In a way the Seattle fan base feels alittle stabbed in the back from Mcmillian, going to Portland. I mean go anywhere else, just not Portland.

This blind sided alot of people, as we were assured that Nate was not going anywhere, and him being at the Sonics draft (and putting his input in) with only afew days left on his contract. If he was thinking of leaving he should have done it before the draft, or not come to the draft.

In the end it came down to Dollars and cents. We offered nate a contract that would "Make him one of the top 5 paid coaches in the NBA". Portland offered more, and for longer.

Blame Seattle front office for not extending him last year.

I agree on that one. As far as Coaches that are left, about the best of the Bunch is PJ Carlisimo. Wooohoooo /sarcasm off.

Riley isn't really on the market. He'd be hot topic #1 if he was.

And...

Ya'll realize that Portland's owner is richer than all of the owners put together - twice.

He gets what he wants.

If it makes you feel better... he'll leave Portland before his contract is over. They are SERIOUSLY one of the most 'broken' teams in the league. It'll be AT LEAST 3 years (with some good draft picks, if Telfair blossoms and they get their 4/5 guys in line) before they are back in the playoffs. They have a lot of talent, but... I'd even put the Clippers and Warriors as a 'more talented' team.

Don't mourn him... pity him. Portland's cancer is the 2nd worst in the league. Only the Knicks have a more malignant case.

Umm, why?

McMillan couldn't have been happy about the way the Seattle front office treated him, either. Seattle could have locked him up any time early last season, had they chosen to. I pity the poor bastard, given the situation he's inheriting in Portland. If he thought dealing with James and Fortson was ugly, wait 'till he gets a load of Portland.

They way overpay him. His coaching record is only 212-183.
