Big trade in Hockey

Postby Arlos » Wed Nov 30, 2005 9:35 pm

Joe Thornton apparently is headed west.

According to a report on Canada's TSN, the Boston Bruins, in last place in the Northeast, have traded their captain to the San Jose Sharks for Wayne Primeau, Marco Sturm and Brad Stuart.

Thornton, the first overall pick in the 1997 draft, has nine goals and 24 assists this season in 33 games for Boston.

Primeau, a center, was the Sabres' first-round choice, 17th overall, in the 1994 draft. He has five goals and three assists in 21 games.

Sturm, the Sharks' first-round choice, 21st overall, in the 1996 draft, has six goals and 10 assists in 23 games.

Stuart, the Sharks' first-round choice, third overall, in the 1998 draft, has two goals and 10 assists in 23 games.

Hrm, dunno what I think of this. Stuart is gonna be a huge loss on the back end, and we've really been weak there this year for some reason. Maybe it'll spark the team, tho. Sharks have been sucking it up big time for some reason, though in large part it's been Nabokov looking awful for some reason. Hopefully he can turn it around...

The Sharks suck this year currently losing 9 or 10 straight. They needed to do something to turn the season around but I think they gave up too much.

I hope this sends Thorntons point production into a nosedive, I'm in a tight race with Snero in my hockey league and he's got Thornton.

i think boston git the better deal

thornton was the best player in the deal, but Stuart is a good player, and so is Sturm

primeau kinda sucks

pure salary cap move

ps, sharks were dumb to trade stuart. their problem is they can't play defense anymore, and their goaltenders suck

but they're sad they let Kiprusoff go now, jeje

Thornton is one of the three players I can name on the Bruins. I still don't know if this is a good deal :dunno:. No one around knows much about the Bruins.

Dont worry Susvain. Just tell everybody around that as long as the Bruins have Cam Neely and Ray Bourque, they should be ok.

Sturm looked good for Boston last night against Ottawa. He got a goal and an assist. Stuart also got an assist.

Thornton had 2 assists in his first game with the Sharks (along with a shot off the post barely 13 sec in), and the sharks won the game 5-0, and actually looked GOOD on the power play at times. This may end up being one of those trades where both sides benefit.

Both the Sharks and Thorton are looking good since the trade.

Yep, he's got 5 assists and 1 goal in the 3 games since the trade, and Patrick Marleau has just exploded, now that he's not facing the opposing team's top checking line, and has 9 assists in the same last 3 games. Oh, and the sharks have scored 5 goals in all 3.

Sturm & Co, haven't exactly been stinking it up for Boston, either, so, like I said before, I think this may be one of those trades that actually benefits both sides.

The Marleau explosion is helping me, the Cheechoo explosion, not so much.

OK, this has achieved nutty proportions. 25 goals for the team in 5 games, in which they've gone 5-0. Marleau has 13 points in that stretch, Thornton has 12, and set a team record by having 5 straight multi-point games. I was a bit concerned about the trade at first, but not now, looks like it was just what we needed. Nabby's looking a lot better too now, even.

Their defense still weak though. They gave up a short handed goal and McClaren retardation cost them another goal.
