Steelers making the playoff?

Postby Phlegm » Wed Dec 07, 2005 8:37 am

Steelers are now 7-5 after losing 3 straight. Could they still make the playoffs? They are 2 games behind the Bengals in their division. Their remaining schedule is Chicago, Minnesota, Cleveland, and Detroit. They are currently behind Jacksonville, Kansas City, and San Diego.

I think they'd pretty much have to win out for a wild card. Bothe AFC and NFC wild cards are a toss up this year I think. Hell Minnesota could even be in it.

If they win 3 out 4 and have a bit of luck, they are in.

I don't think so either. I say they lose to Chicago and Minnesota, and the NFC north gains back a little bit of repect in the end of the year here.

With both the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Diego Chargers losing today, the Steelers playoff hope brighten considerably.

Here are the 4 teams in contention for the 2 wild card spots in the AFC with their remaining schedule:

Jacksonville (9-4): San Francisco, Houston, and Tennessee.
Pittsburgh (8-5): Minnesota, Cleveland, and Detroit.
Kansas City (8-5): NY Giants, San Diego, and Cincinnati.
San Diego (8-5): Indianapolis, Kansas City, and Denver.

Jacksonville has the easiest schedule while San Diego has the toughest.

Doesn't look too bad for them. KC and SD both have brutal schedules, which include each other, which guarantees a loss for one of them. You have to figure they are both going to get at least one loss outside of that game also. KC vs Giants/Cini, SD vs. Indi/Denver.

So one of those teams will go 2-1, the other 1-2. Possibly both 1-2, but niether can run the the table.

Pittsburgh on the other hand could legitimately run the table and at the very least should go 2-1. So who has the tie breaks in the KC/SD/Pitt race assuming they all go 2-1, just for shits and giggles.

San Diego has had the single most brutal schedule I can ever remember. They've played 5 teams on the opposite coast coming off bye weeks.

I think Pitt will make the final wild card seed, which will have them most likely playing New England in the first round in New England. I see them smacking N.E. around.

As of right now , Kansas City would get the spot since they have a 7-3 conference record while San Diego has 6 -3 and the Steelers has 6-5 conference record.

The Steelers, however, would get the nod over San Diego if the two teams tied because the Steelers beat them earlier this season.

Geez, Jax finishes up with San Fran, Tennessee, and Houston. Talk about an easy ride to the playoffs. Lock them in for the first Wild Card.

Pitt plays @Minn which is winnable
They play Cleveland, also winnable
and Detroit which they will also win.

I'd count on Pitt winning out and getting in, or at worst 2 of 3 which should do it.

San Diego plays @Indy - Ouch
then @KC - Ouch Ouch
and finishes with Denver at home
Brutal.

KC plays @NYG -
then San Diego
and finishes hosting Cinci.

So, Jax plays the bottom three teams of the lague. Pitt plays 2 of the bottom three teams and a so so Minn team. KC & San Diego play brutal top tier teams.

With Kansas City losing today, the Steelers now control their own playoff chances. If they win out they're in.

Steelers beat the Lions 35-21. So they are in the playoffs as the number 6 seed in the AFC. They will play the Bengals.

They will also beat the ever living shit out of cinci, which would put them into Indy for the semi's

I don't like their matchup with indy at indy

if they had them at hienz field, then I'd be more enthusiastic
