it's a shame, he's one of those players that would have been nice to see spend their whole career with the same team. But i guess if ray bourque can get traded after like 20 years, anybody can

that was almost a mercy tho

they traded him simply to give him a shot at winning the cup

this was just pure money I'm afraid

unless of course, they felt they wouldn't make the playoffs(prolly won't) rent him to NYI for 3 1st rounders and resign him in the spring


ps, they got 2 guys who will never play in the NHL i think

I don't think it really had anything to do with winning the cup, they gave the best offer and he turned it down. So the team felt they had to get something for their best player before losing him to free agency.

At best the guys they got in return would be below average 2nd liners, decent 3rd line players from what they've shown so far, although I guess that o'mara kid could turn out a bit better in theory
