i don't kno. Best player at his position even if its DH.

But again, their aren't punters in the Football Hall of Fame and only like what 3 kickers?

Hall of Fames are a joke sometimes

Edgar Martinez was the best right handed hitter of the 90's bar none. Watching him on TV and Sport Center hardly ever did him justice. He was by FAR the best, and most dangerous 2 strike hitter that i have ever seen, past or present. He was also the most intelligent hitter of our generation.

He shouldnt be allowed in the Hall? Why? Is the DH a position in baseball? Yes Then he should be allowed. He leads all 3 major DH catagories (and others). a career .312 hitter, 306 homeruns, and 1246 RBI's (and counting). Thats pretty damn good if you ask me (those numbers are his career totals, not his DH totals. He did play alot of 3rd base when he was called up from the minors.) In fact he played 591 games between first and third base.

He batted over .300 in 10 seasons, and led the league in hitting twice, and a 7 time all star. Not many can boast those numbers.

If we say DH's should not be in the hall, then we shouldnt allow closers in either. Both are specialty positions, but both are equally as important to the outcome of a season (AL obviously). As far as the punter comment goes its apples and oranges. A punter to be in the hall has to be heads and shoulders better than another punter. There just hasnt been a GREAT punter ever, because there is no gap in talent. They all have been around the same skill level.

DHing there has been Great DH's, that are far far better than the rest of the field. For those that say that DHing is not a real position should actually play baseball sometime, and attempt to play the DH in a non beer drinking softball league (you know the ones, where there is a keg at second and home. You have to drink a cup before you pass).

To keep focus when you are DHing is very tough. Not playing the field was always a hinderance for me as far as my hitting went. To do this night in and night out at such a high lvl is amazing, only getting out of the dugout 4 times in a game, keeping loose, keeping your head in the game (for those of you that have played baseball at a high lvl know that baseball is by far the most mentally challenging sport out there), and haveing hours between actually being involved in a game is not easy. To do this night in and night out for 18 years is phenominal.

To really appreciate what edgar martinez did in his career, you would have had to watch him from the get go, till now. Not only is he one of the biggest reasons why there is still baseball in seattle (hi almost tampa bay mariners), he was also one of the most intriguel parts of mariners, arguably as much if not more than Griffey ever was. He came up with more clutch hits than anyone i have ever seen in MLB.

Oh yeah, 22 years with the same orginization. In todays baseball, that alone should be worth a hall invite! :D

Sorry, have to disagree with you on Edgar being the best right-handed hitter in the 90's. Big Hurt was the best hitter, statistically. Everything else you said bout Edgar, I agree. As a die-hard Yankee fan, I know :)
