Hallf of Fame game: Dolphins vs. Bears

Being the Dolphins fan I am, I guess I'll tell things from that side of the ball...

Gus Frerrote played amazing. His footwork was absolutely spectacular. He would step up in the pocket and avoid many blitzes that AJ did not. He read the defense well and made all the necessary throws (he got help from Bryan Gilmore's spectacular catch in the end zone). Though he was aided by knowing the system moreso than the other three QB's, he did very good. He looked confident and wasn't nervous at all, making his first start in several years.

When number 8 ran onto the field, I admit, I laughed and said, "OH boy!" Brock Berlin surprised me, a lot. He played like he had been in the league several years, not nervous one bit and was really confident. He showed off his mobility, scrambling left and right and floating some good passes in there. He really looked comfortable in Linehan's system, which is similar to the system he played under at Miami University. Scouts say his lack of arm strength is going to hold him back...but I liked what I saw, even if it was the Bears 3rd or 4th stringers.

AJ Feeley was different. This man is an amazingly gifted and talented passer. He can throw with greater velocity than Donovan McNabb, has decent accuracy, but just doesnt have the mindset to be an NFL QB. His release is slow. He has quite possibly the worst footwork I've ever seen in a QB. He doesn't read the defense throughly, tending to lock onto his targets. When he is pressured from a blitz, and he gets hurried, he will throw the ball away, which gets him in trouble. The bottom line, he lacks the heart to play QB. He gets injured so often and never stays in the game.

I didn't really get to watch Rosenfels throw, but oh well. Couldn't have been better than Gus or worst than AJ.

Our secondary looked god awlful. We got burnt on so many passes. Luckily some of them were overthrown or da Bears could have been way ahead and it wouldn't have even been a contest. The secondary is almost completely new and will need to work together to achieve success.

The big story was Ricky. How would he perform? The O-Line let him down, again. He gained 8 yards on 5 carries. Ricky didn't really have that many holes to run through. The rest of our running game sucked anyways. Hopefully Ronnie signs a contract soon. The Dolphins are not willing to give him #2 money though, so who knows what we will see, or not.

Boy, I am ready for football. This season is going to be an exciting one.

I thought AJ played quite well. Rosenfels is clearly the #3 guy on that team. His release is slow as molasses and even against the third team, he wasn't nearly as sharp as the other two.

The early surprise was all the blitzes Chicago did. So much for being vanilla in the preseason.
